Spearfish canyon Road

Will be leaving Hill City and traveling to Billings, Wy. Would like to take 385 to 85 onto 90. Is that a route I can take 35 ft MH and tow? Is Spearfish Canyon an option to drive as well? Thanks

No problem using 385/85 to I-90 that's a major truck route. The only issue is going through downtown Deadwood is a bit tight depending on traffic.

As for Spearfish Canyon Rd, I would try that one in your towed first. Its 25 miles of continuous twisty turns back & forth, and a favorite of us Harley riders for good reason. You could probably do it with your rig but it wont be fun and your arms will need a rest at the end.

To stay out of Deadwood maybe I should take Rt 16 via 385 to Newcastle up to 90. Maybe better?

Do it all.....go slow, if you feel like you have to.

We stayed at Spearfish city campground, right on a stream.

Stop at the Park lodge in Spearfish Canyon......linger through the visit, coolest place to visit.

I agree - driving the canyon is not an issue. Traffic is usually going at a reasonably slow pace anyway, looking at the scenery.

I'm from Spearfish and would agree driving through the canyon would be a PITA.

I'd take 16 to 85 and get on 585 towards Sundance. You can get onto 90 there.

It's a nice drive through the N Black hills.
