Has anyone camped at this campground and what did you think of it? I read only one post on it and it said that the sites are oceanfront (across one dune) - true? We are camping at Fort DeSoto for part of a week in June and want to hit the northwest coast on the way back home for a few days. THANKS!

We have not been there yet but we have friends that go regularly. They love the place.

I am not sure about the ocean-front thing though. There are usually dunes that are home to sea oats and they are protected by law. I would expect to be camped on one side of the dunes and have a board walk or some other kind of controlled access method across the dunes to the beach.

And like a lot of FL state parks (on the beach), there are no pets allowed.

Its been several years since I camped there, the hurricane did some damage there, most of the campsites are small and a tight fit for an RV. There is or was a huge dune that had board walks over them to the beach, great place in the Winter to look for sea shells. A lot of Snowbirds have discovered the beach campgrounds so you might want to call ahead for reservations and site information.
