St Pete Seafood Festival in October. Recommend RV parks nearby?

We're thinking about going out to the Seafood Festival in Saint Petersburg in October. One option is to try to get a site for our 35 ft DP at Fort Desoto. Was wondering if anyone can recommend other private parks. There are several there, but the reviews are all over the place.

Reservations are allowed six months out for non locals. Do it. We are local and we stay at the park a couple weeks / year. Close to event and one of the nicest parks we've been to in the country.

Ft. DeSoto is a terrific park. However, be aware that, if you have a pet, you must stay in a specific section. Also, be aware that "pull-thrus" have a very tight radius and are heavily treed. You should be ok with a 35 but look at the website views of specific spots. There are some other FL. State Parks in the Sarasota area which is roughly 40 minutes south of St. Pete. Lake Manatee is nice.

I agree it is a nice park BUT I will never take my 38 DP in again. There are just too many overhanging trees and trees on corners of the sites. I scraped against a hidden palm tree stump hiding underneath Palmettos. There are so many trees with old huge scars from repeated hits.

There is a KOA in Madeira Beach that is close by. It is in an urban setting but you won't lose any paint. If you ride bikes the KOA sits directly on the 30 mile long beach bike path.

I agree... the sites themselves are reasonably roomy enough once you get in... it's just getting in that's the issue. The roads are narrow/tight and the trees try to jump out and get you. Last time I was there, we had a 37'mh and I had a real challenge getting backed into our site. Trees on both edges of the site entrance and trees across the road preventing a good swing. Many, many to and fro's to get in. Gotta watch the upper branches too. No way I'll even think about taking our 43' in there.
It is a great place for the right sized rig.

Guess it's where you get the site-- we have been in the pet section and have not had much room

The park holds back sites for "walk ups", go to website at seven am to get
a site. Also, check daily for sites to come up due to cancellations. If you
want confirmation call the park, the rangers are helpful.

There are still sites available, they also release sites online Friday morning as well. Can usually get something that will work.

Sounds like a good event, but thats football season for me. In LSU the weekend before and FL/GA in Jax the weekend after... but you never know might get a wild hair and try and squeeze it in...

BTW, if you have a golf cart take it with you.

Have fun..
