Any recommendations for an easy access campground in the St. Pete area? I checked Ft. Desoto but at 44 feet, 13 feet high and a toad, the old growth trees make Ft. Desoto risky. Visiting family for 2-3 days so amenities are not important.

Thanks

Yup ... you'll ding it for sure. My 38 ft. is ok but requires careful maneuvering.
BTW, the drive-thrus have a really tight radius. I saw a 40 ft. that couldn't make it and had to back out. There are 1 or 2 sites at the south end of the "no pets" section that you could probably get into by going "the wrong way" to avoid the loop.

At that size, you might try some of the "resorts" in Bradenton or Sarasota. Short run back to St. Pete over the bridge.

Hi Dawgs,
Lazy Days is on I4 near I75/I4 interchange. It is a bit of a drive, but if you avoid rush hour, the drive is all on major highways. It is an easy in and out for the coach and PFJ is right next door.

Check out Bay Bayou in Oldsmar.

Bay Bayou RV Resort Tampa Florida

Also check out the Passport America website if your a member. There are several sites north of Fort DeSoto and on the other side of the Skyway bridge in Manatee county.

Passport America Campgrounds

Also starting today, Lazy Days is refurbishing their pool area for the next two weeks, so the pool, hot tub and pool baths area closed.

There are a lot of "resort" style places the KOA has some huge pull thrus. Try this site
St Petersburg campgrounds & RV parks | St Petersburg Clearwater, FL Beach Vacations.

Enjoy

Robert's RV is right off 275 at the Gandy exit. This is where we store our RV and where my parents wintered last year. They have a "camping" section as well as park models.

Also just remembered Myakka River State Park can handle 45 ft. on it's pull-thrus ... they have about 6 sites big enough.
Welcome to Florida State Parks

It's about 50 miles south of St. Pete. but near the Interstate.

Thanks for the information. Looks like I'll stay away from Fort Desoto and maybe stay at the KOA for just 3 nights. Only 10 miles from family site.

Another vote for Bay Bayou. It isn't cheap, but it's convenient for me. I use it every year for a couple of days in Feb-Mar time frame.
