St. Rosa Sound RV Resort: thoughts?

Looking at staying here for a week in March (2014). A bit pricey at $95 a night for waterfront spots. You can stay back a bit from the beach and save a few bucks per night, however, if you are going to camp on the Gulf..... camp "on" the Gulf.

Anyway, has anyone tried this "resort" campground?

We want to stay in the Florida panhandle and close to the beach if possible. Other parks you might recommend?

At the end of Santa Rosa island, is Fort Pickens. COE camoground. Free fishing pier. White sand beach. Just a short drive back to the shops, restaurants, etc. We stayed there last March. Great place.

If you're ret military you can camp onboard NAS right on the Sound/Gulf

We also stayed at "Ho-Hum" campground, in Carrabelle. Very nice, under $30.00/night. Long pier, watched the dolphins swimming.

We enjoyed our water front site and the location. Close to both Destin and Pensacola Beach, close to the bridge over to St Rosa Island and the miles of "Gulf Islands National Seashore" Yes, it is pricey. Good luck getting into any of the public parks on short notice. Ft Pickens is nice, but won't offer full hookups, if that's what you're looking for.

Note: St Rosa is not directly on the Gulf, but on the intercostal. It's about a mile across from the park to the island.

We are at Emerald Beach RV resort! It has more trees and a very nice beach and fishing pier. Not sure how to compare rates as we are here for the month of Nov.
You will not find nicer people!
Check it out!

Geez we are at Emerald Beach also and like it. Santa Rosa just down the road I drove through it twice , it is clean and really nice concrete and lots. It is only 4 rows deep and back row is right up next to busy highway check it out on satellite view maps. This is the sound here not really nice swimming. The gulf is just over the bridge with great county park and beaches. Topsail state park has full services and a tram goes down to miles of beaches every hour , it is probably all booked by now. Camping on the Gulf in Destin has some lots right on gulf short walk for the rest. El Governor over in Mexico Beach is nothing fancy but you walk across the street to the El Governor Motel have beautiful beach and full use of motel pool. If you want to be here in March book now as it gets busy .

I've stayed there. The waterfront sites, except the last one, aren't meant for motorhomes. You have to back into them. There's a newer park just across the bridge from Pensacola to the sound that looks real nice. I'd try thst one.

The Naval Museum is a MUST SEE when in the area. This past Saturday we watched the last fly over of the Blue Angels for the 2013 season, they made three passes over the museum. Best part, it's free.

suggest going a bit further east to Destin West Rv resort. Brand new resort on the sound with all beach amenities across the street. About the same pricing as Santa Rosa Sound. Minutes away from Destin. Well worth the stay.

We stayed at St Rosa last March. Nice, but on the sound, not the water. Top Sail is fantastic as well as Gulf Shores state park in Alabama. If you want privacy and more camping feel, I'd go there if you need full hookups. Here is a pic at st rosa.

We left St Rosa a couple of weeks ago. We stayed in site 24, the best site in the park. It's a nice newer park, but you can hear the traffic from Highway 98 all the time. The showers, restrooms and laundry are clean and the fitness room is nice. There is not much to do at the park itself, but there is a small beach on the property. If they had a pier, we might consider staying there again, but for the money we'd probably go to Emerald Beach next time. The ladies in the office were very pleasant to deal with and very accommodating.

You might also try Camp Gulf Campground. It has sites right on the beach.
