We have stayed in state, federal and private campgrounds in many states and have only run into two that have a size limitations. One is in our home state of Georgia. (Black Rock SP) The other was northern California at the redwoods. I know that there are others though. (Yosemite comes to mind)

What we do find is that the park may have a limited number of sites that can accommodate larger rigs. One that comes to mind is in Oregon. Plenty of sites but only a handful that will fit a 37' or larger MH.

I would not hesitate to buy a 35' or even larger RV. There are plenty of places to park it.

You've all been very helpful and we appreciate it. We will be east of the Mississippi since we will camp in WI when visiting my father-in-law. I'm good about planning ahead so I'm sure I can find us something. Yosemite and Yellowstone are on the list that requiring planning, it's available but needs to be planned well in advanced. Redwoods are also on my list and I haven't looked there will have to go look today!

You state you'll probably be west of the Mississippi. O.K. problem solved.

As I stated above, we have had absolutely no problems finding sites with our 40' motorhome mostly west of the Mississippi.

One comment above was about Yosemite. That is one we would not try. In fact, California is a different 'breed' entirely for their state parks. However, in California there are wonderful county parks that compare favorably and sometimes even better than their state parks. We have also stayed in great forest service campgrounds in California. So....don't limit yourself to state parks. There are other options. For Yosemite, we stayed in a forest service campground between Lee Vining on 395 and Yosemite. We are also member of the Escapees RV Club and they have a park near Yosemite where we have stayed. Regardless, Yosemite is not a favorite park of ours - too many people period.

Regarding national parks, we have stayed multiple times in Yellowstone, Grand Teton, Glacier, Zion, Bryce, Canyonlands, Grand Canyon and others. In fact, some of our visits have been without even having reservations.

We have stayed in every state park in Arizona and many others in New Mexico, Colorado, Utah, Montana, Oregon, Washington and more.

There is absolutely no problems finding spots with a big rig - especially in the West.

PA state parks have sites avail for over 30 but they are a small percentage of the total lots. As long as you are not trying around a holiday or summer weekend you should be ok. They are upgrading a lot of the parks to have full hookup sites. When they redo the sites this way they make them big enough for big rigs although you lose some of the privacy barriers between campsites.

More state parks are starting to provide pictures of each campsite. Even Reserve American is doing that too. Speaking of state parks we use: Ohio State Parks in general are OK for 35' RV's. But there are some built in the 60's with tiny campsites, or tight turn-in sites. Most of the Northern PA. State Parks are fine for bigger RV's, one must watch the roads to get "to" each state park.
