Question Storage and/or Campground in San Jose?

We are going cross country from Florida to California starting in about 5 weeks. When we get to San Jose, we are staying in a hotel since I will be attending a conference there in June. We will be staying at McEnery Convention Center right in downtown and we need a campground or a storage facility to store our rig during the 6 days we will be in the hotel for the conference.

We looked at Allstays and ParkAdvisor, but we didn't find a campground in the immediate area, but there are a few relatively close. Of course, those apps do not show storage facilities, which we would be open to also.

I am hoping someone in that area knows of a great place we can keep our less than one year old rig during our hotel stay.

Thanks in advance.

I used to live in the area and worked in San Jose. First off, you are going to be hard pressed to find a RV park in SJ proper. You can do a lookup on the net for storage areas, but with the population being what it is, chances are slim to none of finding a short term storage area. There are some RV parks just south of SJ in Morgan Hill, Coyote Valley, and Gilroy area that could be looked at. You would be about 25 miles south of the downtown SJ area from Gilroy. Depending on whether you have a toad or not, transportation back and forth may be a problem getting back and forth.

We found one!

We will be staying at Coyote Valley RV Resort, south of San Jose. It has very good reviews, so we are confident it will work for us.

It's not terribly close to downtown, but it's only about a 30 min. car ride. There is a train station about 6 miles away that will take me right to the convention center.

Just wanted to let everyone know.

We've stayed at Coyote Valley several times, and should be back in a few weeks. It's a great little park with a bike/running path right behind it. It's a little difficult to get to since you need to arrive from the south and coming from the North there is no place to turn around for many miles.

As to storage, check Morgan Hill. I know there are a few storage places there.

When we checked Coyote Valley they wouldn't reserve a specific site for you; you got what you got when you pulled in. That is a big negative for us. Is it still like that?

I honestly can't say, although I'm going to try to make a reservation today so I can find out. We haven't had issues with any of the spots so far. We've never been able to get one of the large spots for whatever reason but they tend to be closer to Monterrey road and louder so we've decided not to bother any more.

We are spoiled, but have great windows and a dining table on the curb side so like to camp where we are on an end that doesn't have another RV on that side of us. Can't always do it of course, but like to when we can. You never can at a park that won't reserve specific sites and just gives you whatever is available when you pull in.

I can verify that you can't reserve a specific site at CV. I understand your plight, as we have a back deck on the toy hauler and we don't always get to use it. At the same time, there aren't many options in the area. The fairgrounds are in a bad area and don't look too secure and we're not Elks club members so that's not a option.

I don't think you need to be an Elks member to use their CGs. When we had to choose in that area we went a little farther south to Morgan Hill.

Morgan Hill is a nice area and has a few CG options.

Normally, in order to use an Elk's Lodge campsite, you need to be a member of the order and have your membership card. when I was a member of the Gilroy Elk's lodge, this was the case. Their lodge os just above a smaller got course off Hecker Pass Rd.
