Wife and I are taking the MH this year....must be getting old as we SWORE we'd never trailer to Sturgis. OH well, I'm learning to never say never. Staying at Sturgis View...tented there for a few years now...

I90W to I80/I94W stay on I80 to I29N then I90W

You will miss a lot of the I90 tolls/traffic through Chicago.

Sturgis 2013

We normally do not travel west and stay on the east coast or Canada...we are going to use Flying J for gas and rest or Wal mart as needed...3 day run for 1600 miles should be ok...two 600 mile days...hell not a problem for me as I have ridden 600 miles on the HD pulling a trailer..I know my speeds will be reduced so not a prorblem.

We do not want to travel right thru Chicago unless its necessary..Pulling a 16 ft trailer behind a 36 ft A gas unit..

I use to think we would not go unless we rode...but the wife had a kidney transplant June 22nd so she still rides her Fatboy but not able to ride that hard...

Bill

Tirker56 has some great advice! Avoid Chicago I-90 any way you can. Toll booths about every 5 miles and at least $10 at every stop pulling a 5th wheel. Between the cost and the constant stop-start it's a major PITA. I'd drive 100 extra miles to avoid this mess.

Actually, every 12 miles...it only seems like 5.

But yep, like I said before they toll by length on the drive through overheads and by the axle at the booths. Very expensive.

travel

I have plenty of time prior to going so I can avoid as much as possible.

I purchased a Rand McNally 7710 used from a fellow person on here. I believe I can pre plan my route away from the Chicago mess...no sense dragging all the RV and trailer around.

Daytona Bike week has been in my blood for years...From 1973 till 2005...every year...Grandparents and no my mom lives in Port Orange...free place to stay..

Is 600 miles to much per day?

Bill

In a MH pulling a trailer, you bet it is Bill. Sturgis is 1350 mi for me and takes three 8 hour days to get there. You're lucky to have a moving average of 55 mph. It's not the destination, it's the journey

I know but I am one who drives long distance with no problem. If we take 4 days we will arrive on Saturday the 3rd...and we will leave on Sunday the 11th...10-12 hours for me to drive in comfort is easy...I have done the iron butt 2 times..1000 miles on day...rest one day...1000 mile back...but my HR Endeavor is a dream to drive..

Then you'll enjoy the trip and you'll be arriving on late Friday night.

Trip

Well after reading many of the thougths of others we are leaving the Wed before the Rally...we plan to do 500 mile days and arrive on Saturday mid day...this will allow us to hook up and relax from the drive and not try to rush along to hook up friday night...this is our first trip to the mid west so its new to us..

We also are going to run Rt 80 to Omaha and then up to rt 90..this will add 80 miles but I believe a better travel than up past Chicago?

Comments??

80 puts you through Chicago, might think about 70 to 74 to 90.
