Sturgis 2013...who's going and staying where

My wife and I moved up to a 36ft Endeavor this year and we planned one of our trips to Sturgis for 2013.

Anyone else going to this event?

Where are you staying..

Any great places to camp...we really do not want to be up all night while others enjoy themselves...

We are pulling a 16 ft dual axle enclosed trailer so we will be over 52 ft total..have to chose our location wisely.

Bill and Brenda...

I have Sturgis on my Bucket-list, hopefully for 2014...My son and I took a 3,000 mile road trip on our Harleys through the area a couple of years ago. I would begin looking at around 60 miles out from Sturgis to get away from the maddening crowds...well, at least that is what I am thinking.

Sturgis

Went there in 2008 with a 40' toy hauler and the Harley. Stayed at Katmandu campground about 4 miles East of town on I-80. Next to the National Cemetary - very quiet at night. Their web site advice to all night partiers is to find a different place to stay. They have a shuttle bus to town so you can enjoy an adult beverage with out the risks (legal and otherwise). Very nice people run the place. On the down side, this is a temporary park that's really just a hay field. No trees or shade, and you are close to the interstate.

I also recommend "The Sturgis Guide" you can find on-line for about $20. It has some great recommendations for places to see. We rode 1,000 miles in a week during our stay.

We were in Sturgis this past August and stayed at the Teepee Campground and RV Park in Rapid City. Wix.com wwwteepeeblackhillscom created by teepe0 based on Lets Gardening it was nothing fancy, clean restrooms and a nice owner. Very convenient to Sturgis, Mt Rushmore and the surrounding area. I would stay there again!

For the last 4-5 times we were there, we've stayed at Glencoe. It's close enough to town and they have plenty going on in the CG if you fell like hanging around there. All sites there are large enough so you don't even have to unhook your trailer. This year we were there for the full two weeks they were open . Walking distance to the Full Throttle.

We've been through there several times but plan to never go to the motorcycle rally. We stay at Three Flags RV Park in Black Hawk, close enough to Sturgis without being in the "party zone". It's one of the few parks that doesn't raise their rates to crazy levels during the rally

We were there 08,09,10. Stayed at www.elkviewcampground.com just south of town. It is right off of I-90, with big sites, small bar, restaurant, to meet others if so desired. We were in some pull thru sites with 20ft enclosed trailer that fit well.
Enjoy the ride.

We are going to stay in Custer. About an hour from Sturgis but close to other nice rides. Taking the Harley in the back of my Outlaw. Going to Yellowstone while we are out there. Should be a nice month away from work!!!!

We picked this site as Custer was a bit to far away for us...my wife had a kidney transplant this past summer and I wanted to be close to a area that had medical support if needed and Custer was a bit to far..

trip to Sturgis

Ok first time going to Sturgis....I have an E-Z Pass which covers most of the North East States...and it looks like I-90 is the route I will be taking..

How much of I-90 is a toll road and I am aware that my EZ pass does not work so what do I expect for travel out west?

Bill, when I lived in NE Indiana I used to make runs east with an I-Pass which was accepted wherever EZ-Pass was. Did it change where EZ-Pass no longer works westward? Be prepared for trucker rate tolls though, at least in IL. Very expensive.
