Successful first trip to South Dakota
What an amazing week visiting Mt. Rushmore, Crazy Horse, Devils Tower and all the other sites in South Dakota... Badlands, Needles Highway. We had an issue in the hills with engine temp going up. Great Freightliner dealer, Eddies Truck Center, Rapid City, got us in immediately and degreased and steam cleaned our radiator (2005 Winnebago journey DP). Tech showed me how to get up under it to clean the back side, which I had never done. Great place if you are ever in that area and need a Deisel Svc ctr. Also decided to have alignment checked, and another great place is Rapid Tire And Alignment. Walt got us in the same day we called. He did an alignment, and adjusted the play out of our steering wheel... Coach drives like a dream now!!! Two great businesses in Rapid City. All in all it was a wonderful trip. Stayed in Custer SD but decided it would have been more centrally located to start in Rapid City!!

Glad you found a good service shop in Rapid City and had a great trip. Be aware, Devil's Tower is in Wyoming, not South Dakota.

Advice on RV parks on your trip
My husband and I are planning a trip to see Mt. Rushmore and surrounding area. Do you have a rcommendation on parks to stay in - we have a 40 foot with a tow car and 4 slides.

Casper, we stayed in Custer SD and I do not recommend it!!! It's close to MT Rushmore But it is about 28 miles up in the hills from Rapid City. We stayed at FT Welikeit in Custer. The sights were not level and it was all we could do to get our 36' MH in our sight because of the trees! We had to un hook our toad first! Rapid City is centrally located if you want to visit Sturgis, Deadwood, Keystone, and into Wyoming to Devils Tower. It's a nice town and has all the conveniences, such as Walmart etc. There are several RV Parks in Rapid City. We spent one night Happy Holiday Resort on Hwy 16. Not fancy but nice.
It's a great trip!!!

We just got back from there, too. We stayed at Rafter J in Hill City. It was a great location, close to Mount Rushmore and Crazy Horse. We have a 40 motorhome with a tow and had plenty of room. The wifi wasn't always great, but could get on occasionally. There was a KOA near Mount Rushmore that looked good, but, we didn't drive into to check it out. There's a lot to do in the area, so have a good time!

We were there the end of July. Holly Smoke Resort, 24105 U.S. Highway 16A, Keystone, SD. Nothing fancy, but easy access and very centrally located. 21 pull through sites with full hookups.
