Suggestions for Minneapolis, MN to Madison, WI

We we soon be traveling to Minneapolis, MN, then on to Madison WI on I-94. This is our first time in this area of the country. Please advise of good campgrounds and sights to see. We need one or two intermediate stops between Minneapolis and Madison on I-94.

Also considering a side trip to Milwaukee if there are good campgrounds and sights to see in that area.

We drive a 40-foot motor home and would like campgrounds with a little elbow room

We recently spent 4 nights at the Hidden Valey RV Resort in Milton, WI, which is just south of Madison. We also did an easy day trip into Milwaukee, as well as a trip to see Taliesin in Spring Green (which was our main "destination for this leg of the trip).

Our site backed to a corn filed, but it was a nice spot, with plenty of room between sites, as well as open which we prefer so we can get a satellite shot. Other sites are more wooded if you prefer that.

Very clean park, nice pool. Part of the park includes park models, but they are in their own area and much better kept than we have seen elsewhere.

Seems to attract a big weekend crowd with kids, given the nice pool and other activities.

Worth checking out, we would stay there again........

Carver Preserve Park

I can vouch for Carver Preserve, a city park just WSW of Minneapolis, we just stayed there during our pass by of the area. No water or elec hook ups, its one of the Metro Areas city parks... but not far out of town, clean & accessible. My Minneapolis buddies tell me that the State parks on the St. Croix river are nice options, too. Those would be east of metro Minneapolis.

Word of advice: Minnesotans love their parks. Book in advance.

If you want to stay off the interstate consider dipping south out of Minneapolis and making a stop in Austin, MN at the SPAM Museum... it is actually very interesting. From there you can go along the river down to La Crosse, WI and then over to Madison... pretty country.

There is a nice county park in Madison but only has electric and some of the sites are not level. We have also stayed at the Madison KOA. It also was ok and surprisingly full of weekend campers while we were there considering it is an urban campground.
