Hi and welcome to the forum.

I've moved your post here to its own thread to avoid hijacking the thread it was originally posted in.

I'm sure some of our members will be along soon with advice.

Best of luck.

Rick

limited wisdom

I have been investigating the area you are asking about oldmannow. I have not stayed in any of them, but I have visited a few. Sun and Fun looked nice, and it has amenities galore. It's only drawback was the fact that it had only one pool, which, for as big a park as it is (1400 spots) could be a problem. Indoor shuffleboard is a real plus. The people I met there are as nice as you can find. Tip-O-Texas, in Pharr is very nice as well, with an indoor and outdoor pool. It is centrally located to the entire valley but it backs up to the event center and can be noisy sometimes. Again, the people are very nice. Tropic Winds has the largest sites that I have found and is on the newer end of the spectrum. Victoria Palms and LLano Grande very pricey, but you get a lot for your money, VP having their own cable system with channels that allow you to check on the action or lack of it at places like the tennis courts. Bentsen Palms Village is like a true park and, being in Mission, has access to bike paths into town. I believe Kenwood has an indoor pool. Use campgroundreviews.com to learn about the parks and access their websites from there, and use Google Earth to actually look at the park from the sky. It is a good way to see the size of the sites as well as the location of the park in relation to the necessities in the area. The older parks are usually nearer Bus. 83. Each park develops a character all it's own, with the residents determining those things that transpire. The bigger the park, the wider the range of activities. Some are individually owned, some are parts of a chain. Make a lot of calls, check out the websites, and visit if you can. Bob T

I reccomend Victoria Palms in Donna. We stayed last season and once before checking it out the year before. It is an active spot and has all the toys in place for youe enjoyment.

Bob thank you for your expert advice and guidance. I have just completed a visit to all of the RV parks you mentioned and spent many hours visiting with residents and staff. I will stay at Tropic winds in Harlingen for a couple of months before I hit the road for spring traveling weather. Your thorough advice was invaluable

oldmannow, I expect a thorough report sometime in march and I suspect it will be favorable. I spoke to the manager once to suggest the installation of a badminton court (just a net is all you need) and he was anxious to see how it could be done. That's the attitude you look for. They are sister parks with other parks in the valley and it increases the facilities and activities that are available to all. I think that they play softball with Fun and Sun, among others. Perhaps I will see you there next year. Enjoy your stay, Bob T
