Looking to go to this area at end of March and would appreciate any info on a few places we are considering. Bay Bayou RV Resort, St Petersburg KOA, Horseshoe Cove RV Resort and Dunedin RV Resort.

Bob,
That's pretty spread out for 'local' campgrounds
Bay Bayou is pretty nice ... KOA is small and tight sites ... Horseshoe Cove is in Bradenton and full of winter visitors ... what is left over is pretty tight, otherwise a nice place ... Don't know about Dunedin ....
... If you are going to the Tampa area try Southern Aire or Spanish Main in Thonotosassa .... both nice and should have sites available ..... A little South try Alafia River RV Resort or Frog Creek RV Resort ....
There are many campgrounds/resorts around the Tampa and South area so if you want to be in a specific area let us know and someone can probably give you a headsup on it

Spread out for local campgrounds? They were only an inch or two apart on the map

Seriously, we'll be on the Gulf Coast side for a week to ten days. In addition to hitting the beach and relaxing we plan on visiting old friends living as far north as Brooksville and as far south as Port Charlotte. Was hoping to find something that was somewhat in the middle.

Have a 38' MH so would like easy access and 50amp.

Bob,
If I were you my first choice would be Fort Desoto which is a county park.
You have both easy access to the interstate network.
You have beach, You have boating, you have a campground that will give you the "feel" of the Florida Keys.
You can check it out at their website:
http://www.pinellascounty.org/park/05_Ft_DeSoto.htm
If you can get reservations you won't be sorry.

Second choice would be Bay Bayou.
Last LAST choice would be the KOA.

That's quite a distance ... you might want to consider two parks, one North and the other down near Port Charlotte .... Just North of Tampa is Quail Run or just South is Alafia River RV Resort. There are several in Port Charlotte, with Riverside being, probably the best, but may be full ... Also Encore in Port Charlotte.

I would definitely agree with RMM. Ft DeSoto is a beautiful park. All the sites are big and a lot of them are water front. They have the best on line reservation system I've ever seen. This is a popular camground so book NOW!
Pete.
