Tennessee in May/June

Ok need everyone's help. Planing a trip to Tennessee from Connecticut. Will most likely spend 5-6 days there. What is on your list for must see and do. Also some great places to eat and campgrounds to stay at.

Of course you know about the Grand Ole Opry and the Ryman Auditorium. Get your tickets soon so to be able to pick better seats. We also attended the Opry at the Ryman which was fun. Easy finding toad parking in the Ryman area and all the shops.

We stayed at the Seven Points COE campground, waterfront site on J Percy Priest Lake. Sites are elect. & water, with dump available. Now is the time to get reservation for waterfront site. Much nicer camping than in commercial campgrounds in town. Only about 20 min. drive to Opry or Ryman area.

There is also Graceland in Memphis, DollyWood in Pidgeon Forge, Gatlinberg and tours of George Dickel & Jack Daniels Whiskey Distillery, Loretta Lynn Ranch in Hurricane Mills (RV Park there), and the Train Station of Chattanooga Choo Choo track 29

Another nice location is Crossville TN (approximately halfway between Knoxville and Nashville on I40) especially if you like golfing. Up on the 'plateau'. We were there last Labor Day for a month, and temperatures were moderate. CG is off the main drag about 4-5 miles, but it was very peaceful. Chattnaooga has a lot to offer. Rock City, nice Aquarium, Civil war sites, Cave with water fall and lots of other things. Oak Ridge is also worth a stop, great Museum of the atomic effort and Big Ed's has great hand tossed pizza, also the Appalachia Museum near Norris is not far and is outstanding.

Don't forget Great Smoky Mountain National Park. You can camp in the park or several that are available on the Tennessee side that are just lovely.

Jack Daniels Distillery, Lynchburg, is great.

You can't miss with Tennessee, Water, Mountains, National Parks-Great BBQ
and lots of entertainment possibilities.

I live in Nashville and wasn't even aware this existed, but took the tour and loved it! You must have reservations because they fill up fast.

Being from Connecticut/New England, I would gather that you are accustomed to "smaller" states and being able to explore two – or more – interesting and/or historic areas in a day.

That said... Tennessee is, for all intents and purposes, THREE "states" in one! You have on the east, Chattanooga/Knoxville/the Mountains and the Tennesee River and LOTS of COE lakes, campgrounds and boating opportunities.

In the middle: Nashville and all it entails... Especially the OpryS (plural), old (Ryman) & new (off Briley Parkway)... And THREE campgrounds in the area from which to choose: KOA, Jellystone and Two Rivers. You have to explore Broadway and the honky tonks along the way. Also plenty of waterfun to be had nearby as well.

To the west: Memphis... Birthplace of the Blues, where Elvis walked; and B.B. King, and killer BBQ! Beale Street is an experience in itself. Also the National Civil Rights Museum, which is the converted Lorraine Motel, where Dr. King met his demise. And Graceland RV Park (behind the Heartbreak Hotel) is quite nice; maybe a little tight for a larger rig, but serviceable. One of our "must do's" in Memphis is to attend the Duck Walk at the Peabody Hotel at 11 AM.

Bottom line: Decide what you want to do/see and go from there. There are LOTS of areas from which to choose.

Anchor Down RV Resort in Dandridge Tenn. New resort, right on the lake, close to 66, off I40, All Sites have fire rings or fireplaces. Great great place!

Would you think we would need reservations at this time of year? I know Memorial Day is the 25th. We would avoid that weekend.

If you like something a little different and quirky..... try to go to Elkmont the first week in June (check for the exact dates) to see the synchronized fireflies.... and it just happens that it is right in the neighborhood of Gatlingburg and all the great fun. You will need to do some research and actually make reservations to go see them... but it is such a neat event..... Best wishes and safe travels.
