Texas Coast

Hello,
We are looking for advice on camping spots along the Texas Gulf coast for the month of Feb., we would like to move around a little to see the area. We enjoy bird watching and heard this is a great area to see a lot of activity. This is the first time in Texas and the first big RV trip, we are very excited. We are traveling in a 34' motorhome. Also our last stop before heading to Texas is around New Orleans, so we would need something within around 5 hrs traveling to stop for the night.
There is so much great information on this site!

Beaumont, TX would be about 4 or 5 hours from NOLA. I can recommend either Gulf Coast RV Resort or Hidden Lake RV Resort for an overnight. A little cramped for extended stay but good for over night. They both are Texas Campgrounds - Passport America Camping & RV Club parks if you are a member of PPA.

Talk about perfect timing.... Feb in south Texas and birding! OK.... a little further west from Beaumont you are going to run into Matagorda Bay and then Palacios ( a small town )... in between you will find some of the best bird watching you will ever experience. You will find several RV parks in either place and be within easy driving range of great birding. Personally, I would head over to Palacios... just a great place to hang out... Serendipity Bay RV Resort is a great place to spend some time.

Do not bypass the Blessing Hotel restaurant about 10 miles north of Palacios in the small town of Blessing.... they serve Christmas dinner every day... you will find it to be a great stop.

Drive safe and have a great trip.

There are better times of the year - but I suspect you would want to give this a look - a call and a visit - even if the "fall" is long gone - becoming familiar here is a good investment in the future - and may provide returns in Feb. They can provide best bet info.

Enjoy!
