Texas Gulf Coast RVing and Golf-Feb/March

We are looking at stopping in Texas on the Gulf Coast for a couple of weeks late February or early March on our way to Arizona next winter. Any recommendations on a favorite spot?

Interests include having a nice, well kept RV park, access to several public golf courses and having many options for casual seafood and Texas barbecue. Enjoying time on the beach would be nice too, as we escape the Chicagoland weather. I was hoping for temps above 70+.

Any and all tips would be appreciated as we have spent 15 years enjoying spring break renting condos with the kids (when they were in middle school and high school) and got to know and enjoy the Tampa, FL area, but now are looking at trying to find a great spot in Texas to add to our winter destinations with our new motorhome.

Gulf Waters RV in Port Aransas. Even though alot of the sites are privately owned, most are available to renters. Stayed a week and even pick the site we wanted. Close to the beach, great staff and gulf carted the 5.5 miles down the beach to everything.

Looks really nice. Sites are beautiful and many golf courses are in the area. Plus there's the proximity to Corpus Christi if a need arises to make a quick business trip. Looks like a great option for us and deserves strong consideration. Thanks.

We are at Pioneer Rv Resort now-(today is 74 degrees) They have a boardwalk that you can drive your cart out to the beach. Palmilla Beach Golf Club is next door. Lots of great places to eat in Port "A". Try Beach Street grill, highly recommend it for great seafood. Be aware that in March most Gulf coast towns will be overrun with spring breakers.

Gulf Waters is hands down the nicest place I have ever been to. We went for Thanksgiving week, and are going again for Christmas.

Gulf Waters is the next RV park south of Pioneer, mentioned above.

Not BBQ, but we highly recommend Shell's for dinner. It does not look like much from the outside, or even from the inside, but GREAT menu! Also Irie's but it is hard to catch them open, with their odd hours and shutting the doors when they run out of food, which can sometimes happen earlier than you would expect.

If you stay at Gulf Waters, and rent golf cart from their sister company, you can drive the carts on the streets, highways (toward the golf course), around town, and they have a private boardwalk to drive over onto the beach. We plan on renting one when the tide is out and it is sunny following a good cold front. Best time to be on the beach in Texas.

Thanks for the recommendations. Do you think I need to make reservations any sooner than two weeks before we arrive? This would be for about a 10 day stay starting the first week or so in March.

When we stayed at Gulf Waters on Thanksgiving, we had plans to go to Ruidoso for Christmas, but enjoyed Port A so much we cancelled those plans and reserved another spot at Gulf Waters for Christmas, instead. They had about 10 spots available at that time. That was 4 weeks before the trip.

So, you never know if 2 weeks is enough...

Port Aransas Is A Good Alternative To Aransas Pass

I only say that because my sister lives in Port A and I try to visit her as often as possible. Although it's a short free ferry ride away, I always park my Discovery in Aransas Pass. My favorite is: Ransom Road RV Park Aransas Pass, Tx | Home

I've always been treated with respect and even if they're full, somehow they seem to find me a place to park my D. You still have great access to Corpus Christi, Rockport, and the best fishing on the Texas Gulf Coast. And no, I don't have any financial interest in Ransom Road RV Park. It's simply a great place to park. Not only that but it's an easy drive through the King Ranch to the Rio Grande Valley.
