Texas Hill Country, San Antonio question

We will arrive in the San Antonio area next week and want to visit Kerrville, Fredericksburg, New Braunfels, and San Antonio. Looking for suggestions for a nice RV park that might be central to those areas. Otherwise we don't mind moving from park to park if that makes more sense.

I will suggest that you use at least 2 different RV parks.... strictly for the driving time involved getting around. The Alamo KOA is wonderful in San Antonio and a great base for the sights of the city itself. (Don't overlook the SA Missions... ) In our books.... you can keep Fredericksburg... too touristy. New Braunfels and the area around is wonderful.... there are several great restaurants and bakeries. Groene is really special!!!!

This past summer, we base camped in New Braunfels. Spent a day in Austin and a day in San Antonio. Also did a side trip to Gruene (pronounced GREEN). The CG we used was River Ranch RV Resort. Located kind'a half between the two cities. Nice location on the Guadalupe River.

Recommend you check out the Guadalupe River Resort in Kirville (Kerrville RV Parks | Guadalupe River RV Resort) for a more "camping" experience. Try to get a site along the river--can't be beat.

If you want a fancier place that's more "resort" like and closer to San Antonio, try Blazing Star. I've only done night-over there, so I can't say too much except that it's the right location for San Antonio, and it is a very clean/pretty park. https://www.sunrvresorts.com/Community/bst

I don't normally recommend a KOA but the one in Kerrville is nice enough and the owners & staff are good people. They also sell diesel at a competitive price.

We stayed at Johnson Creek in Ingram a few miles northwest of Kerrville for the Texas Boomers July 4th rally - Nice little park in Pecan trees and beautiful surrounding hill country !

The Jeep really got it use there going up and down the hills and off the beaten path !

Went here for an awe inspiring afternoon and sunset
here's a pic of the jeep overlooking Kerrville and a ranch entrance down the road from the park (bring gps, you will follow your nose and need a way back )

We like the Admiralty RV park in San Antonio - very near Sea World and reasonably good access to the San Antonio attractions. Will also recommend Guadalupe River RV Resort in Kerrville. West of San Antonio (less than 30 miles on Highway 90) is a very nice RV park in Castroville, Texas - The Alsatian RV Resort. the town of Castroville has a very interesting history, and it is good access to some other Hill Country towns (such as Hondo and Bandera)

x2 for Johnson Creek RV Resort in Ingram. The couple who run it, Tom and Lisa, are nice folks. Here's a link to the resort's Web site.

Peach Country RV Park in Stonewall is good for looking around the LBJ Ranch, wineries, and the Nimitz WWII museum. Fanciest park in Kerrville is Buckhorn Lake Resort (more $$ than others in the area, but very nice)

To see the area you mentioned, would take more than a few days, but you could easily hit the high spots.

Look at Blanco State Park in Blanco, a bit north of SA. Also Lady Bird PArk in Fredicksberg.

Wow, thanks for all the suggestions. We are not on a schedule so can spend as much time in Texas as we want (at least until mid March). We do want to keep west and get to AZ before we head home in March.

Sounds like our best bet is to stay in one of the near to SA parks while we visit SA then head to the Kerrville area.

Gary,
We spent a week last year at Buckhorn RV Resort in Kerrville. Really nice place and I would recommend it. Also, in San Antonio if you are looking to stay close to the river walk there is a nice park. It is not what I would consider in the best part of town, but we spent a week there a couple of years ago and never had a problem. It's called Travelers a World RV Resort. About a 15 minute drive to the downtown/river walk area and if you don't want to drive, the bus stop is across the street from the driveway and will drop you downtown.

Enjoy your travels.
Tom
