Texas Potjie Festival

We started out heading to a dog show that was scheduled for Monroe LA this weekend. Well with Isaac passing through, we chickened out. So we decided we would stop somewhere before leaving Texas. We happened to end up at the KOA in Rusk Texas. First I want to say it is a great place and the folks there were wonderful. Second they said they only had a few spots but could put us out front because the Potjie festival was happening there and there would probably be somewhere around 600 people there but we were welcome. They did give us a bit of a description of the event. Basically, people from South Africa or have that heritage gather together, have great fun camping, cooking in cook offs (Potjie) and getting together. Well what a fun weekend this has been for us. We talked a lot, ate a lot of South African food and learned a lot. These folks were very nice and just great to get to know with lots of culture. Of course the pups were a good ice breaker.
By the way, there is a web site for the festival that will tell you lots if you are interested, just google the subject. It's a sort of Stew cooked a certain way and there were other dishes to be had. Even the kids are involved.
