Texas to Florida campground suggestions
We are planning our first RV trip for December 2014.
I have two weeks off and we want to visit our daughter in Florida... so, we want to spend the majority of our time in Florida (already have reservations).
We don't want to RACE across the country - however, we don't want to take a week getting there...
If we do about 400 miles a day that would have us stopping at...
Beaumont, Texas
Mobile, Alabama
If you know of some place near those stopping points we would certainly be interested...
For example...
"stop 50 miles EAST Beaumont (going a bit further than planned stop) and there is a National Park with a waterfall"
LIKEWISE
If stopping in Mobile, Alabama is a royal pain we would like to know that as well...

Hi wfcentral,
Pass Mobile and stop in the Pensacola area. The Naval Air Museum is there. If you want more military stuff, in Mobile, AL is the battleship Alabama next to the Interstate. At the same location there are other ships and a B52 bomber. If you have never been close up to a B52, it is quite an airplane.

Meaher State Park on the Causeway in Spanish Fort (just east of Mobile) is very nice - full hookups and right on the bay and right off I-10. Easy on and off. Felix's Fish Camp on the Causeway is an excellent meal. It's not really a fish camp - it's owned and run by the same people that have the Mobile Ruth Chris restaurant. (so a bit pricey, but excellent!)

We're planning a trip in the other direction and have been doing some research.
Meaher SP on the east side of Mobile Bay just off I-10 would be a good choice.
Before that there's Fairview Riverside SP on SR-22 just east of Madisonville, La., around five miles from I-12.
No idea about Beaumont. Good luck!

We're leaving Kerrville TX on Monday headed home to FL. We're planning to stay overnight in Beaumont TX. Will let you know where we stay or what we find in the area. Our next stop will be the Gulfport MS area for 1 or 2 nights, and then to Destin FL before home. Mobile is a little farther than we want to go after leaving Beaumont, so won't be able to help you there, but it looks like you've gotten some good response on AL.

Gulf Coast RV Resort | Beaumont Texas Rv Campground
We have stayed at Gulf Coast RV Resort several time. Nice wide pull through concrete sites just off the interstate. Good Restaurants nearby. Free breakfast which was very good. Beaumont Tx. I think it is Passport America.

wfcentral - Darwin is correct. Gulfcoast RV in Beaumont was a good place to stop. We stayed last night. Passport price was $20.00 for a long, concrete pull thru site. Easy on and off I-10. We didn't take advantage of the complimentary b'fast, but as Darwin mentioned, there is one. Once you leave Beaumont, there are tons of RV parks off interstate for a 1 or 2 nighter. Get ready for some rough roads, though. I-10 is ridiculous. Take I-12 at Baton Rouge so you'll miss New Orleans. It hooks back into I-10. I-12 is a much better road than I-10. Safe travels and enjoy your trip.

There's a really nice city park with hook ups in Opelousas, LA. You could take 165 to 190 then back onto I 10 at Baton Rouge. There's some really great Cajun food in Opelousas, the CG is very inexpensive and the biggest bonus is you can get off the rough part of I 10.

I guess it depends if you use Passport America at Gulf Coast RV Park. We have never had a nice site using PPA. We have always had to step out in the swampy grass. There is really nothing else in the area though.

Depending on the time you have and where in Texas you leave from, from Port Arthur highway 82 around the coast toward New Orleans is a nice drive.
