I am a resident of Texas (Burleson near Ft. Worth) and have been working the southern FL for about two years. I've never missed TX so much in my life! People around Miami are some of the rudest materialistic I've seen and I travel all over the country for work. FL is not a state I would ever return to for any other reason than my company sending me here. At the moment I am in Homestead FL (South of miami) and I am often doubtful of my safety. My friend had the wheels stolen off his rental car right in front of the hotel HAHA.
AH! TEXAS! I miss you.

I moved to FL 20 years ago. It was a pretty relaxed, inexpensive place to live. I really don't care for it anymore. In the past 2 years, I sold my home, kept a small house to use as a base, and travel on my RV. The more I travel, the more I don't miss FL.
Florida's motto is "come on vacation, go home on probation". It's not a friendly state anymore. I'm heading west.

It depends where you live. It's a big State as is Tx ( I know bigger , better yada yada yada ). We live in and love Florida and didn't care for Tx. To each his own. That's why there's chocolate and vanilla.

This is our second winter in Port Aransas, off shore of Corpus Christi. We had also made the FL-TX comparison and decided that Texans were far friendlier than the people we encountered in FL. The winds come up every week or two for a couple of days, but it's usually not enough to cause us to alter our plans for the day. We do have the coach washed once a month to reduce salt spray accumulation, but that's something you're going to encounter in any coastal beach area.

This is a question that we have been struggling with for the past year. I will be retiring 1 February and we would like to find a winter destination to get my DW out of the cold after the Christmas/New Year's holidays. We have family and friends in Florida and many friends in Texas so these are the two places that we are considering.
We will be headed to Florida via Gaffney SC (Freightliner for service) in a few weeks and we will be exploring central/south Florida to see if there is someplace that appeals to us.
Later on in the year we will be headed to the North Houston area to meet up with some friends (annual reunion) and follow one couple back to the Austin area where they have a winter home to spend a few weeks investigating some Texas locations.
Bottom line, we hope to make a decision, Texas or Florida, by the end of this year as our winter destination. Wish us luck!

Please don't judge the entire state by where you are working. It would be like judging all of Texas after driving through Dallas at rush hour. There are many great places in Florida. The west coast is 180 degrees different than the east coast. Central Florida is different, northern Florida is different.
I sure can understand you loving Texas so, it is a great state.

Others opinions of an area may be completely different than yours...
Only one way to find out and that is for YOU to go there part of the fortunate adventure you are starting !!!
How many rv parks have you had a good experience with your neighbors and then the next group came in and it was bad ?
Same goes with a state - While generalities are generally true, there are always exceptions
good luck !
(but Tex-US chose us )

We are between Port Charlotte and Ft. Myers. We can reach either of these locations within 1/2 hr. We find this area scenic, relaxing, and friendly. While we have nothing against Texas, Florida just feels more tropical and "vacation-like" to us. Florida is more costly, though.
Hope this helps. Safe travels.

We live in Texas and love the Ft. Meyers area, but I can get to South Padre Island on 1 tank and park the coach where I can see the surf for $35 a night full hookups. Sure it can be a bit windy, but when the wind stops you can't wait for it to come back. Texas still has a lot of the old "As long as you're not hurting anyone it's OK." attitude, but sad to say it's getting more " As long as you're not irritating anyone."

Yep, as a native Texan, I've watched the change as our demographics change with people moving into Texas. Unfortunately, many of these individuals seem to want to turn Texas into whatever they left rather than adapt themselves to what Texas is (or used to be)....
