Thanks to everyone out there for all of the GREAT advice on heading to Myrtle Beach! We got back last night around 12:50 a.m. after driving 17.5 hours - and had a GREAT time! Thanks for the advice on traveling through Virginia and West Virginia - and the braking tips for the mountains.

We can't say enough good things about the people at Oceanlakes - both employees and patrons. Everyone there was so friendly!! We loved the busy corner we were on, and thouroughly enjoyed all the customized golf carts. We'll be sure to go back!!

Also, thank you to Grand Strand RV who promptly arrived on our site to replace the circuit board for our refrigerator. It quit on gas on the way down, and luckily everything stayed cold until we arrived and plugged it into electric. Heath from Grand Strand was knowledgeable and friendly and went out of his way to be of service - even in showing us how to work our washer and dryer since we never had one in our coach before.

The only negative in the whole trip (weather was PERFECT!!) was the personalized directions from FMCA. We had our GPS and directions from Good Sam also, along with a nice Atlas - so all worked out okay - but in following the directions from FMCA, we were lead all through the "back country" on our way into Myrtle Beach?? Hmmm...... I'd be interested in hearing what route all of you take.

Thanks again! We had a great time! I hope all of you had a wonderful Holiday. Back to work tomorrow -

Glad you enjoyed the trip...as for routes- I come out of East Tennessee on I 26 E to Columbia, S.C.- I 20 E to Florence- I95 No. about 10 miles then right on S.C 327 and follow the signs toward Myrtle Beach. If I'm camping in No. MyBeach I use hwy-22 that bypasses Conway. I think O/Lakes is south so I'd stay on #501 into Myrtle Beach to U S 17. If you all stayed on I 77 So. you would have merged onto I 20 E above Columbia.
Glad you enjoyed the trip. Ck our web site below.

Glad to help. Ocean Lakes is one of our favorite places to visit. What a great beach!

Most GPS systems (my Garmin does it as does Microsoft Streets & Trips) will try and route you off I-95 (if you are heading south from NC) around Lumberton, NC and take you down 41 through the rural areas to Myrtle Beach. I always stay on I-95 until I get to exit 181 at Latta and take 38 to 501 to 544 which brings you directly to the entrance of Ocean Lakes. Also, there is a nice Flying J at the Latta exit for fuel if that might be needed.
