Things to do in New Orleans & Campgrounds

We would like to visit New Orleans right after Christmas. We're just wondering about recommendations anyone has - things to do & see - and possible campgrounds nearby - New Orleans or just North or East of there. Are there certain areas that have tours - bus trips into the city or can you easily drive there & park? We appreciate all information & thoughts. Merry Christmas & Happy New Year! ~wheels

We stayed her in June" Pontchartrain Landing - RV Park and Campground, Marina, Boat Launch, Shuttle It is a fairly new Park and the spaces are big. We used Passport America and paid 1/2 price.

They have shuttle service to downtown every day. The Garden District is worth a visit, we did it by trolley out and back.

We enjoyed a Swamp Tour and a ride on a Stern Wheeler on the Mississippi River.

A visit to Welcome to Cafe Du Monde New Orleans | Cafe Du Monde French Market Coffee Stand for Beignets and Coffee is a must. We ate at the Gumbo Pot and really enjoyed the food and the service.

There are three state parks around New Orleans with camping.
We are staying at Bayou Segnette, winter rates 18 per night Water, 50 Amp Power and WiFi.
Algiers ferry is 15 minutes away with 5-10 dollar parking. Ferry is free. Take a sandwich with you and there is you lunch or dinner boat cruise.
Ferry drops you off at Canal Street in the French Quarter.

All of the above are good choices. Keep in mind Madri Gras starts the end of January with the super bowl in the middle of that. So for 3 weeks are so this place will be crowded. I would suggest come right after the first week of January and before the third week. Feel free to ask about any other info you might want to know.

Things to do in New Orleans

Thanks to all that responded to our question. We are thinking of moving down tomorrow (Christmas Eve) to the Bayou Segnette State Park - we'll be coming down I-10. Just wondering what kind of traffic we might expect & if there would be a better time of the day to travel? Thanks much! ~ wheels

Wait until after the morning rush hour traffic is gone.
