We are relatively new to RVing, only getting into it the last three years, and the furthest east we have been is the Badlands in early October. We are CONSIDERING a trip to western Kentucky to Land of the Lakes to see our daughter who will be working for the Forest Service during this time, and to see some new parts of the country. Because of the time of year, we would head south, then east, to find warmer climes and avoiding as many mountain passes as possible. We don't know anything about the weather this time of year east of Albuquerque, so are we crazy? Any suggestions or comments? Things we should avoid? We would be driving our 32-foot Seabreeze motorhome and towing a car. Our 2 Schnauzers would accompany us.

You already know choosing a departure weather window (numerous on-line sources) is prudent. Allowing lay-over time along your route to await a window is also prudent. Traveling South through Northern CA will rely on your weather window to drive through the mountains on I5. Once again you may be required to wait for a weather window to get East of Albuquerque on I40. Once East of Amarillo,TX you should find easier driving conditions to KY, but once again monitor weather.
Pre-locating RV parks along your route that are open when you need them should be considered, as FHU's will really help in cold weather, especially if you must wait-out a snow storm for a few days. Have a safe and enjoyable trip!

When you are in Western KY, make sure you eat at Patti's 1880 Settlement. I get the 2-inch thick pork chop that melts in your mouth. Plan on eating two desserts there (per person) and taking a third home for eating later on.

I think RVThere means Patti's 1880's Settlement Restaurant in Grand Rivers, KY. It's about 2hrs west of Bowling Green.

He's right - save room for dessert. Gotta get the butterscotch pecan pie. Oh, it's to die for!!

You'll need a big glass of cold milk to get through it's richness.
