Tom Sawyer, West Memphis, Arkansas

So, the maiden voyage of our new to us travel trailer (shown below) will be for me to stay in it on a business trip. I'll be staying at the Tom Sawyer Campground on the Mississippi River in West Memphis, Arkansas. Anybody stayed there, any tips or suggestions.

We stayed there while visiting Memphis, great views of the river with barges going up and down all day long. If you like to wake up and watch the river get a river front spot. Not real close to Memphis, maybe 20 minute drive or so.

Well, they told me ten, but I'm fine with twenty, if the campground is nice.

We have been there several times. It was really dusty last November, all gravel roads and each passing vehicle was a dust storm. We like the food and entertainment on Beale St.

We have stayed there. It's better than average. The river, of course, adds another dimension.

Have fun!

We always stay in the Jellystone in Southaven MS when passing through. Big park and a dog run which is super for us.

Depending on the dates you'll be at Tom Sawyer, I'd watch what's happening with the river, the campground has been under water more than once. I'd think with all the snow in the upper midwest, once it starts to melt, there will be flooding on the Mississippi. Their web site used to show the flooding. But with that said, it's a nice place to stay and be able to go into Memphis to get some Memphis Bar-B-Q, and go to Beale St. to hear the blues.

We were booked there in May (I believe) of last year and unfortunately the reservations were cancelled because of flooding. We were really looking forward to the stay. So as has been said, watch the flood warnings!

I just stayed their 4 nights in late October, was dusty but sites are level along the river with nice concrete patio. We were no more than 15 minutes depending on traffic to Beale St area. I couldn't find a closer location to downtown area, and we were about 20-25 minutes depending on traffic to the wedding we were attending.

Definitely recommend checking out a restaurant called Flights and The Beauty Shop. BBQ Corky's and Rendevous are 2 of my favorites. I didn't think I would enjoy Graceland, but I did enjoy seeing his car collection and his 2 planes. Good luck and I hope you have fun!

If you like BBQ ribs, you have to try the Blues City Cafe on Beale St. (on the corner). Excellent and some good entertainment as well.
