We are planning a trip to Topsail Hill State park in April 2007. I looked over as much as I could find about the area, as well as the park. I was just wondering if anyone knew which would be the best site, i.e. close to the pool, tram, and other facilities the park has to offer. We have two kids aged 9, and 3. I was also wondering if anyone had any opininon on whether mid April would be a good time to visit this park. Is the water warm enough to swimin, and will there be enough to keep us busy, and entertained for ten days? Thanks in advance for any input.

I've found that there really aren't many sites in Topsail SP that I would consider bad.
Personally, we try to get in the last loop close to the path to the beach, can't remember the site numbers.
When we were there in May, there were many using the pool, but I'm not much of a pool person so can't guess what the water temp was. The Gulf was a little chilly, but we had great weather for walking the beach and there were many families on the beach.
There are numerous attractions in the area. I could spend several weeks there and not run out of things to explore - but bear in mind that my idea of exploring is much different than younger kids!
My wife and I joke that there are enough restaurants in the area that we can eat at a different one each day and still not venture out more than about 5 miles from the campground.
Hope you enjoy Topsail. It is one of our favorite parks to visit.
Chris

I agree with the site selection, there are no bad ones; however, I like the area when you go past the water fountain.
The water will be fine for you norther folks in April; however here in Florida, We (me) like the water temp in the 80's. The water temp will be probably in the low 70's in April, but the sun will be very warm. Bring lots of money, there is an outlet shopping mall a short distance away, Panama City is a short drive-- kids love it and fishing in Destin is great. If you feel like travelling a little say over to Pensacola, go to the navy base and see their avation museum. You have to ask the gate guard to go in. They have the 1st plane to fly across the Atlantic and it was not Linbergs. Well worth the trip. You do know the park is not located on the beach? They have a tractor pull a wagon to the beach. Have a safe trip. s/Toby

Hello, I just got back from a weekend trip today from there. Like most said there are no bad sites at TopSail but the least desirable ones to me are the ones up close to the office.
I'm afraid that April might be a bit cool to get in the gulf, although it doesn't seem to be a problem for those beer-filled frat boys that might still be in the area.
Most of the snowbirds have already finished migrating back up north. Most of the time the highs are in the 70's maybe higher I'm not sure on that one.
No matter what, it is a great place to go
