We are still hoping to stay on the gulf, but want to be within easy walk to beach and within an hr to activities.I have read lots about Topsail, and some about Indian Rocks campgrounds. Is one any better than the other, and why? Or is there another recommendation? We need full hookups.

Tammy,

We stayed at Topsail last spring break. It was formerly a private CG that is now owned and operated by the State. It was truly a nice place to be. The park was immaculate, groomed sites, beautiful landscaping, etc.

Access to the beach is not exactly what I would call convenient. It is about a half-mile or so down a (usually) hot asphalt road, especially difficult if you are carrying a load of stuff to spend a good part of the day at the beach. Even when you get to the beach you have to leave any transportation you may have used, bicycle, golf cart, or infrequent tram and carry your stuff across a couple hundred yards of boardwalk across the sand dunes.

Also, if you plan to drive from Santa Rosa to Destin or Pensacola, give yourself PLENTY of extra time. The traffic from March to May moves at less than a snail's pace.

Even with these cons, the pros balance it out. I would like to go back to this CG again, only not at spring break time.

We loved Topsail. Just stayed there in Jan. Wehn we wanted to spend time at the beach we drove just a little way down the local road to a place you can park that has Restroom facilites. Right on the beach, found that was just great. We had booked Camnping on the Gulf RV Park and the night before we got there we were told what a dump it is so we let our deposit go and booked Topsail. We drove thru Camping on the Gulf and boy were we happy we moved. A dump it is in comparison. Just shows you you can not always go by the Camping books. Topsail is really a beautiful camp ground. You can get a site that is closer to the road to the beach. They have a trolly that will take you down, i think it runs every two hours. Also, we have never seen a nicer laundry. Great pool, lots of lake, looks like a garden.
