i need to come to toronto for a couple months this summer and was hoping to stay in my motorhome as my family will be joining me. the kicker is i will need to go down town every day but not sure about timing. where would be a good place to call home with a family atmosphere and also what is the best way to get into the city? drive every day, public transportation at some point?

We stayed at Milton Heights Campground in Milton which is near Toronto. It is a gated park with full services including 50 amp if desired. A vey nice park and well maintained. There are however back in sites only if I remember correctly.

I always stay here. Quiet during week. Maybe a problem on the long weekends. Does not sewer, but dump is easy to access. Go bus at entrance and Go train not far away. Good shopping within blocks.Rouge Park - Glen Rouge Campground

I guess the first question you need to answer is which is a priority to you? An easy commute into the city, and in particular, which part of the city? Or a nice spot for the family?

There's lots of options in the areas surrounding the city but some are much better 'family' areas, others more convenient for the commute.

The other issue will be, will you have a vehicle other than the m/h for the commute?

This areas is my backyard, let me know your thoughts.

Thanks for all the tips so far.

We will have a car with us as well. As far as location we will be going Princess Margrett Hospital.

I think it is important that the family is comftable but hoping to have a nice happy medium. As far as commute we may look at the GOTrain for moving around some too.

There is this one north of the city in the country (about half hour drive into Toronto not in rush hour).

Or could drive to Stouffville nearby about 10 minutes and take the Go train downtown.

You might consider one of many campgrounds in Niagara Falls and take go transit into Toronto. It runs frequently, but you would have to transfer, likely in Burlington.

There are some nice places in the Niagara Falls area with lots of things for the kids to do and see.

Many people commute to Toronto from the Falls.

Just a thought.

I would not think of getting into that grid lock traffic with an auto commute to downtown during rush hour anymore. Been there and done that.

The go train gives you the option to live away from the city where there are better campground facilities as others have suggested.

Indian Line Campground. It is in Clairiville Conservation Park at Finch Ave and Hwy 427. This is the closest camping area to downtown Toronto that I know of. Also good fishing and a waterpark.

I'm pretty sure you'd need a helicopter to get from Grangeways to the Stouffville GO station in 10 minutes. It's going to be the best part of a half hour by car.

If you want to commute into the downtown core by GO train the other option you have is to look around the Barrie area. There is daily train service there also.

This would put you in more of a cottage country atmosphere.

Also if you're into a country setting, you could look in the Guelph / Kitchener area, there's lots of nice c/g's and its a very nice area, lots of opportunity for exploring.
