Travel in Western Quebec

We've been thinking of making a short run up into the western part of Quebec toward the end of September/first of October. Since we've never been into Quebec before and finding a thread about traveling there doesn't seem to exist, we're asking for some assistance.

Thinking of taking the I-81 crossing at Thousand Islands from New York, then trough Ottawa and up the 105 and 117 in Quebec. Can someone give us an idea if there in a language barrier in that area as neither of us speak French. Also any suggestions on what to see, CG references, fuel availability and any other general tips will be welcomed.

Fuel expensive in Canada...Period
French...Yes they will try to only speak French but I have not met one that could not speak English if they wanted.
The city is wonderful.

Your route is a nice drive. I do it a few times a year with a 45ft MH w/trailer.
