Jrsrlady,
There is a nice RV park, Orangeland, in the city of Orange. I lived there for approximately six months. The place is well maintained and close to freeways. Just depends where you want to go when in So CA. You may want to stay at a couple of places to reduce the amount of travel.
When in the area, you will want to go to sigalert.com to see how traffic on the fwy's is moving. You will find that time of day and direction has more to do with getting somewhere than the number of miles. Expect that if you ask a local how far something is for them to reply in time not in miles and they may also ask what time of day you will be traveling. For example: if I go to work at 7:00 am it will take me an hour on average and if I leave at 8:30 am it takes about 30 to 35 minutes.
If you do not want to go to D Land, consider Knott's Berry Farm, Universal Studios, Getty Museum, Peterson Automotive Museum and try to fit in San Diego. There is really too much to list, just depends what you like to do. Of course there is always the beach.
Hope you enjoy your time here.
TJ
