I haven't made it up there yet, but I am sure you will get responses. I bet if you posted this in the trips and travel forum you will get better answers.

Don't want to be the bearer of bad news, but if you haven't already made your reservations, it may be too late.

It's been awhile, but we stayed at Wayside Camping Park near Peggy's Cove. It was a nice park in a very scenic area.

+ 1 for Wayside. Try to get a pull in spot facing the water.

Definitely do the bay of Fundy we stayed at the provincial park. The tide was 38ft when we were there it is amazing at the head of the bay when the tide comes in you can actually see a wall of water coming.
There is also a lot of great fiddle music when you are in Cape Breton

We went last year and stayed at three places in NS (private campgrounds) with no more than calling the day before and staying 3-4 days at each place, no problems getting in at any of them (we're 43ft plus toad). Also the provincial parks can be a cheaper alternative.

Thoughts about taking a ferry from Maine to there? Or is it better to just take the extra drive. We would like to go next year. Never to early to start planning.

Spencer's Island NS-Old Shipyard Campground; We stayed here for 2 weeks in 2016.
Lots of history and the Bay of Fundy view outside windshield is breathtaking.
Great owners!
Lots to do!

We looked at that last year it it is HUGELY expensive for a MH and toad. they only list vehicles towing up to 50ft and over 7 feet tall at $550 one way.
https://www.ferries.ca/thecat/fares/
So if you're under 50ft it seems you could go, if towing and over 50ft it seems that it may not be an option.
Much cheaper to spend a couple of nights at campsites and to drive plus the scenery is nice. We drove from Ottawa to the Annapolis Valley and stayed around a week seeing all the sights on that side of the bay.
Drove from there (stayed one night in Amherst NS) and down(up?) through New Brunswick (crossed at Woodstock) and down through Maine and then west to Buffalo. Great drive (busy in Maine and some other areas) but roads OK but a lot of tolls. I think our tolls were around $70 if not more.

Hi hednwest. We are from Tampa and headed to Nova Scotia Friday. We were one of the lucky ones to get reservations at two provincial campgrounds and a site at Cheticamp in Cape Highland National Park. Planning on posting trip reports on roads, traffic etc. so keep in touch. Most of the recommendations posted in this thread are on our list as well!
Safe travels!
