Pick a road - any road and head in that direction. That whole area is absolutely awesome with charming small towns and beautiful countryside.

From Traverse, definitely go over to Lake Michigan and Sleeping Bear Dunes Nat'l Lakeshore. Then follow the highway north on 22 around the whole peninsula.

To Mackinaw City, go via 31. Perhaps stay in Petoskey to tour around that area. Charlevoix is neat so definitely do a day trip there.

You can't go wrong with northern Michigan. If you have time, cross the 'Mighty Mac' bridge and at least drive up to Paradise and Whitefish Point. Tahquamenon Falls State Park is very nice. up that way. The Great Lakes Shipwreckl Museum in Whitefish is very interesting (Edmund Fitzgerald).

Have a great trip!

The Tunnel of Trees drive is beautiful. Take highway 119 through Harbor Springs. About half way along the drive is an old historic church you can stop and see. Beyond that you'll come to the town of Cross Village. Stop at the Legs Inn for lunch or dinner. Very unique restaurant on Lake Michigan with an interesting history. They server polish food and most of the workers are temp workers from Poland. Great food.

This is a trip for the toad. Don't think I'd make the drive in the coach.

We've enjoyed Boone's Long Lake restaurant at Traverse City and have had some excellent prime rib.

At Sleeping Bear Dunes, Joe's Friendly's Tavern (it's really a family place, too) is good for burgers. It's in Empire.

Downtown Traverse City is full of quaint trendy shops, and then on the north west side of town there's an old mental institution that's been re-purposed with shops, bakeries, coffee houses, wineries, etc. you can spend most of a day at the institution alone.
