Traverse City, MI to Bar Harbor, Maine

Leaving Traverse City on August 1st going to Bar Harbor. We do not want to go through Canada. Has anybody else made this trip? What route did you take? Any must stop destinations? We have allowed two weeks to make the trip. Thanks in advance for any and all recommendations.

We took this trip last summer from N of Detroit to Bar Harbor via car taking I-80 to New York, then I-90 thru to Albany, then I-87 N. We then took backroads across New Hampshire worming our way up to US 2 and across to Bar Harbor thru Bangor. We only had 10 days and needed to end up in Philadelphia by July 3rd, so did not make too many stops along the way. I think it took us 3 days to reach Bar Harbor. Saw alot of nice small towns along our route and did not feel rushed at all. I had fun studying maps to figure out which way to head next. Enjoy your trip!

5/20 runs east and west thru NY and parrallels the thruway. its a lot prettier, and in the more congested areas just get on the thruway as a bypass. the fingerlakes are pretty, and the wineries are nice to visit. try getting off the thruway in syracuse...take I81 north to the thousand islands...then follow the seaway over the top of the state into Vermont. its a very easy drive, plenty of places to stop along the way, and the roads are wide and smooth. what towns you do drive thru are very easy to pass through....southwicks beach on the east side of lake ontario is a must at sunset
