Trip to Desert Island Maine

Going to Acadia National Park in June traveling from central Ohio. We are wanting to take a few days and go through upstate New York on the way. What are some must see things. We thought maybe Lake Placid area. Any suggestions?

We are planning Boothbay and Cabbage Island. Part of the family that own Cabbage Island are from our home town and we already have reservations for the clam bake.

We stayed at Shore Hills in Boothbay last summer and did the Cabbage Island Clambake trip. Fantastic! For the Lake Placid area we stayed at the North Pole RV Resort, about 30 min from Lake Placid near Whiteface Mtn. Very nice and lots to do. In Lake George, the Lake George RV Park is great. If into history, visit Ft. Ticonderoga. Also, Lake Cruises are nice.

I'd go on record as recommending a stop at Letchworth State Park in the finger lakes district of NY. It's known as the Grand Canyon of the east and has three beautiful waterfalls. The campground there fills fast, so you may need to stay near the park if you cannot get in. Lake George & Lake Placid are great too. Try an overnight at Hampton Beach State Park in NH. 15 minutes from I-95 and a really "cool" little seaside town. If there are no full hookup sites available, the dry camping is very good there and they have a dump station.
Enjoy your trip and Happy Trails.

+2 on Letchworth SP. We've stayed there too. Very scenic.

Just a small point regarding the title of this thread, the correct name is MOUNT Desert Island. For what it's worth, it is pronounced like dessert as in apple pie, and not pronounced desert as in a dry sandy area.
