Trip to Mission Texas from SE Arizona

We are going to Mission Texas in April. We will be departing Sierra Vista, AZ on or about 1 April and would like to be in Mission on the afternoon of the 12th. By looking at the maps it is mostly I-10 travel ( ). We would like to travel 200-250 miles a day, and would like to visit some interesting places on the way boondocking some and staying in RV parks some. Anyone have ideas as to what to see or where to go? This will be the first of many trips, after we return home from this one we hope to get the final details on the house done and be full-timers. Thanks.

Once you hit NM you could tour around Silver City/Gila Cliff Dwellings. City of Rocks State Park is nice.

Then there's Carlsbad Caverns and Guadalupe Mountains Nat'l Park in Texas. Then take 54 south to Van Horn and I-10 east a short distance to Balmorhea State Park. Then on to Davis Mtn. State Park at Fort Davis.

You could then work in Big Bend Nat'l Park or pick up Hwy 90 to Mission. Hwy 90 is a very good highway with pretty views. Amistad Nat'l Recreation Area has nice campgrounds - north of Del Rio.

We stay off interstates as much as possible. Good luck!

Twogypsies, Thanks that sounds good. I actually visited Davis Mountain last year and stayed at the lodge there. This sounds a lot better than traveling down I-10. We spent about a week a few years back in Silver City when we had a travel trailer. This is starting to sound much nicer than what the map from FMCA showed us.

Rockhound SP is just outside of Deming, and if you get the chance to go thru Hatch, be sure to eat some Mexican food at the Pepper Pot restaurant!

FYI...we are currently in Mission..there is lots of negitive border activity right now with travel advisory stating not to cross the river.there are street gun battles in Reynosa. We feel relatively safe but the news is full of crime in the area. Vehicle thefts are way up. This is our first trip here..not so impressed. Prefer the Tx hill country in Kerrville but it got cold up there. Lol..

Thanks for the heads up. We are going to be there for a birding HOP put on by the Escapees RV club. Everything is already paid for, hope it goes without any problems.

They will be staying at Bentsen Palm Village in Mission. Birding is absolutely fantastic down there!

Thats where we are..nice park but a few disappointments. Decent amenities but not a world class resort that they advertise. If you have a choice request circle 5 or 6 or the 200 or 700 row. Circle 3 has flooding issues and old utilities.

Thank you for the information, I am going to pass this on to the organizers of the "HOP". We are coming in with an Escapees organized trip, so really don't have much of a say.
