Hi Louie & Chris,
First off welcome to iRV2, it is a great site full of great folks & information! Now since I don't know where in NJ you are going to it is kind of hard to answer. However I can tell you that I have traveled from NJ to St Louis, via Chicago so I went I-80 to I-55 which was not a bad ride at all. You could also go I-70 to I-64 to I-81 to I-78 into NJ. Hope this is of some help to you, and if you have any more guestions be sure to ask! If I can't answer I am sure someone on this site can !!

hi al, thanks for your answer to our post, we might be going to freehold, since we want to be close to staten island, my sister lives there, that way we can drive to her house aleave the car there and take the ferry to nyc. also my wife has fam. in woodbridge, so we want to be close to both. do you know any good rv parks in cheesequake or freehold? thanks. louie & chris (and the dog, and the 2 cats) by the way the dog`s going with us.

Hi Louie & Chris,
I did a quick internet search and found out there are 3 parks in the area you asked about.
1- Cheesequake State Park
2- Turkey Swamp Park, which is a County park with camping ( Freehold)
3- Pine Cone Resort, which is a RV Park (Freehold)
Hope this helps, enjoy the trip !

I have been to Turkey Swamp and Pine Cone, they are only 20 miles from my house. I feel that Pine Cone may be a better place for you because of travel times and park closing hours at Turkey Swamp. But it is cheaper at Turkey Swamp.

I used to visit relatives in Southern IL and we always took 78 to 70 (which thru most of PA is the PA Turnpike). But, I've pulled my trailer to Central OH and Indiana and have taken the following route home. Take 70 to Columbus, OH then 270/71 to Akron, OH. You pickup 80 just north of Akron. Take 80 thru PA. You have two choices. Continue on 80 into NJ to the Garden State Parkway (GSP) (pick it up in Saddlebrook) or take 33 South (in PA about 10 miles shy of NJ) to 78. Then take 78E to the GSP. Personally I would take 33 to 78 to GSP - less congestion.
