Tucson Info Welcome

We are headed to Tuscon for the first time this winter and looking for info on things we should see, do, and eat while there including the surrounding area (within a couple of hours drive)). We don't off-road or hike but everything else is on the table. I'll be researching on my own, but I always like to hear from those who have been there and done it. Thanks in advance for taking the time to reply..

Just about everything is listed here:

https://www.visittucson.org/things-t...0-things-to-do

If you don't have a place to stay yet, the Voyager RV has every activity you can imagine.

If you're not looking for longer than 2 weeks, Catalina State Park is nice.

That's a very good website. One thing not there is Kitt Peak, the national observatory. They have day and night tours which are very interesting. UofA has theater and I understand that tours are available of the telescope lens grinding operation that goes on beneath the football stadium. We live just south of Tucson and think it is a great place to visit or to live.

Don's Barrio Bread and the Heirloom Farmer's Market at Rillito Park.

Tucson Artisan Bread | Barrio Bread Made With Local Grain

Rillito Park Food Pavilion, 4502 N. 1st Ave.
Heirloom Farmers' Market
Sunday 8 a.m. - 12 p.m.
The newest and largest of the markets, it’s right next to the paved Rillito River section of The Loop that hugs the Santa Cruz River, so you can bike or walk in. Look for: An excellent selection of 60 stalls, food trucks, live music, and seasonal chef demonstrations. Of special note: There’s more than 5,000 square feet of shaded shopping to keep you cool.

There are many categories on the site and Kitt Peak is listed...under astronomy.

Kartchner Caverns about 30 minutes south of Tucson. Close enough for a day trip but there is a nice campground at the park as well.

Saguaro National Park and town of Tombstone. The Saguaro portion on the east side is a little more impressive than the west side. We camped up in the mountains on the NNE side of the City. Expect temps to be 20 to 30 degrees cooler up there. It was great in the early Summer. At one time it was 102 degrees in town and 48 up on the mountain.

Bisbee S.E. of Tuscon and near Tombstone. Take the Mine tour and visit the town and drive the back streets. It is built in a canyon and hoses and streets are on many levels. If you are their in the AM eat at Bisbee Breakfast Club. The best breakfasts in AZ. Get the biscuit with a side of gravy with your breakfast. The biscuit is as big as a saucer.

Tucson has some of the best Mexican restaurants in the country. We like La Parilla Suiza and Blanco's. For steak try Pinnacle Peak Steakhouse in Trail Dust Town, which is perfect for tourists. We locals love El Corral for steak. Something you won't get anywhere else is steakfingers at Lucky Wishbone.

Take a drive up to Mt. Lemmon located in the Catalina mountains. Just be sure to use the pullouts if you're a slow driver.

Driving the back-roads down to Sahuarita, Sonoita, Tombstone, and Bisbee are real pretty (desert pretty, not Tenn. pretty).

If you're in to airplanes the Pima Air Museum is one of the best. Also the boneyard surrounding the air base has loads of moth-balled military planes to look at.

If you get up to Mt Lemmon then have lunch at the Iron Door.. If you like home made rhubarb pie ask for it when you sit down or there may not be any left.

There is now an Elvira's restaurant in downtown Tucson on Congress. Amazing mole varieties. Or a drive to Tubac for the first Elvira's since the original in Nogales. If you want to eat where the locals do, try St. Mary's Mexican Food Restaurant. People bring in their own containers for the pozole on Sunday. Or Los Jarritos on S 12th Av just north of Irvington. Two restaurants in the Mercado San Agustin are really good too, Seis Regional Mexican Cuisine and Agustin Kitchen.
