I have stayed at Tyler State Park several times and we have really enjoyed it. It is a nice park and easy to get to. I have never been to Purtis Creek so someone else needs to reply. I don't think that you could really go wrong with either park. Have Fun.

It has been a few years since I stayed at Tyler SP, but it was very nice. Close enough to Tyler and plenty to do in the area.

Purtis Creek is a much smaller park and the campsites are a little more secluded. We've done both and if you can get in I'd recommend Tyler State Park. Also look at Lake Tawanoki State Park (I think I've got it spelled right), it's pretty close to Purtis Creek and we really like it.

If you stay at Purtis Creek make sure to go over to the Texas Fish Hatcher Center.
