U. S. to Alaska campgrounds

I'm traveling from Alaska to Mesa, AZ this Sunday, doing a quick turn-around with a new to me 5th wheel. I've driven the ALCAN several times but never in winter towing.

I've been told campgrounds along the way close mid September, curious if anyone has done the RV thing during winter and what you did for overnight rest periods, especially once you hit Yukon Territory.

I'd appreciate any thoughts.

Also, I have several sets of cable tire chains but they state not to be used on trailers. Is that due to the flex trailer tires experience? I've looked at "Trailer" tire chains, they look identical.

Thanks, Larry

Is it winter already?

If you're driving straight days you may have to pull over and dry camp. Fill with fuel at the 1/2 mark and carry bottled water. Use public restrooms as much as possible.

You might find some RV parks open yet. It's only mid-Sept.

Looking at the 10 day forecast for Whitehorse, YT, it isn't even freezing overnight yet. You will find some campgrounds open along the way but if you are just intending to get from point A to B without taking the time to enjoy the inbetween, you might as well stay at Walmart, shopping centers, visitor center, etc..

If it were me picking up a new-to-me trailer and traveling where you will be traveling, I would have a good Roadside Assistance insurance. Especially with a new-to-me trailer.

Enjoy your trip, back to morning brew . . .
