I sympathize with both sides of this argument, and have a concern that varies from responses shown so far.

That is, how, without uniformity, can we travel effectively as owners? I mean, why should we stumble around in the blind being welcomed in some places and fined for staying in others? We all want to follow the rules; being fined for not knowing our actions violate some local ordinance is unacceptable.

Until there comes a time when we can enjoy consistency, either for or against overnight stays, I'd say our mission as an effective forum is to identify the lesser of two populations -- in this case municipalities prohibiting overnights -- and post those for the membership.

Dear Ms. Malafronte,

I just wanted to convey to you my concerns regarding a city ordinance prohibiting off-site RV parking being discussed among 75,000 enthusiasts and their friends online. As a big fan of West Texas tourism, state resident and Senior Member at the iRV2 forum, I have a vested interest in promoting Texas recreational vehicle tourism. With 14 million RVs out there and a domestic economy in full recovery, now is the time to repeal such a measure.

Please understand, I am sympathetic to the needs of concession operators; but, parking prohibitions aren't the solution to their problems.

If Van Horn will repeal this measure, I pledge to immediately convey the news to the RV community via iRV2.

Reading this thread makes me wonder what is wrong, not just Texas but most places. On my cross at Detroit from Ontario Canada this year I was asked how much cash we had. As it was no way near the amount allowed, I was still sent in to declare what was with us. That was not the problem, when I asked the officer why they where doing this he said Quote" If you don,t like it stay home" I was instructed to say no more or face other things. That was in Michigan.
Next was here in Arizona, I went over to the propane truck that was filling another RV to ask what the procedure was to arrange for a fill at a later date. I never got no further then pardon me but do you fill other motorhomes, here the reply was so bad that the motorhome owner standing there also said in 14 years of being in this park he had never had such a rude propane driver respond that way. I left and called another propane company. They replied to give 2 days notice and they would fill my tank. That was all I wanted to know. Not sure what is going on with people that speak out before they will let you finish with your question.

Walmart, Lets see,,, probably the richest family in the US and they want you in their parking lot for free, out of the goodness of their heart?!? Get real! They want you there to spend real money, perhaps spend the night and move on. It is they that should be persecuted for allowing staying there at all. They now take away from other legit businesses (RV parks) by allowing other greedy people to overuse their lot.
They offer no benefits to workers and pay minimum wage. They didn't become the richest 1% of the 1% by being magnanimous, they got there by being greedy beyond greedy! Then, there are those who pull up in a 750,000$ moho and spend a week there, don't spend dollar 1, because Walmart has a policy.
Many cities accross the US now overturn Walmats policy decisions saying that while Walmart leases the land from the city it's still city property and they want you to support RV parks after hours. I agree with that and would hope that others here do too. Most RV parks are private property made useable through their investment and paying workers living wages.They deserve our money to stay overnight. I think most folks realize that when they stay at a Walmart lot they are directly suppoting the richest 1 % while directly contributing to fewer and fewer RV parks. If you wish to enjoy the open road and your lifestyle, stay at an RV park and pay your rent.

I knew somehow Wal-Mart would end up being the bad guy. Many Wal-Marts allow RV's to park in their lots all for free as long as the local laws allow it. Sure they HOPE you will shop in their store while there but don't require it. And this is bad? Yep the children of Sam are very rich as are the directors and many stockholders. The company has created or led to the creation of millions of direct jobs, support jobs such as construction, trucking, shipping. Wal-Mart has done more to raise the standard of living for the less fortunate among us than any government program by providing products at a price point they can better afford as well as those jobs.

Next time you're in a Wal-Mart take a look around. I suspect most of the shoppers are glad Wal-Mart has used their buying power to provide them with affordable prices.

I don't agree with you some RV parks are greedy and charge you for all they can and if I am only spending a few hours to sleep why should I pay for a whole day and for so called amenities I don't use? And then to really tick me off they want to charge me for my old dog too! I've got wheels and I will move on down the road and when it gets to restrictive I'll park it and put a sign on it "for sale", then the RV parks can kiss my ***
