Upper State NY

We are planning to visit upper state NY, we were told not to miss the boat museum, and the Bolton castle. I am hoping for some help finding a good place to stay, that would be central to some of the attractions. We are traveling with friends, so we need to park two class A's and have a toad to take in the sites. Looking at the map Clayton looks to be where the boat museum is and Mary Knoll 1000 island campground seems nearby. Not leaving until 1st of August, so ample time to plan. I would appreciate any information that will help make our trip interesting and enjoyable

There are a whole lot of CGs in the area, do your homework. The furthest south I would go is Association Island and also look at the State Parks as they can take some big rigs without a problem.
We are heading that way next week and not sure where we will stay.

I'm suprised that there is so little information about upstate NY. I guess I will just rely on my Woodalls, and the internet . We had heard how wonderful the area is, we plan to take a few weeks to enjoy the area. Thanks anyway!

Hi,
I'm unfamiliar with the sites you named. I'm staying in the ALPS FAMILY CAMPGROUND that I found through woodall's. It is a very nice, quiet place. It is in Averill Park, NY, so I'm not sure if that's close enough to where you're headed. He has a few pull throughs even if you just stop on your way to wherever you're going.

The only "downside" is that there is no 50 amp service, if you require that. I'm using a converter on mine with no issues.

Good plan. The Clayton area is a great visit. Due to our short season here, you had better start looking for spots now. Many parks will already be booked for August. After Clayton, may I suggest a visit to the Lake Placid area and then to Ausable Chasm. Some of the nicest country you'll visit. Enjoy your trip.

Bill

Thanks Bill, we have reserved Merry Knoll campground, and North Pole campground in the Adrondicks near Lake Placid. Looking forward to visiting the area!
