Smile Upstate New York/Canada

Hi - our plans are to travel (Windsport 35c) from Niagara Falls, through upstate New York, where we would love to camp somewhere in the Adirondacks, by lakes, etc. Then on to Nova Scotia. We are totally new to this, and would love to hear some feedback from you folks who have camped up that way.

Thanks so much!

The Lake George RV park in Lake George NY is as fine a place as you will see anywhere. Lots to do in the area too.

I second the Lake George area and I believe there are a couple of other campgrounds along the Schroon River just north of Lake George that were pretty nice with lots to see and do.

We are staying at the Niagara Falls Campground, Niagara, NY. Nice in and out, very nice owners, no frills but close to the falls and the border.

Friday and Sunday night they have fireworks at the falls at 10pm. They are lite up everynight. Enjoy.

Over the years I have camped at many campgrounds. I have to say that Lake GeorgeRV Park is number 1 on my list. I wouldn't stay for one night but if you are looking for a nice place for a few days and if you have kids/grandkids with you, there Is a lot to do

NYS camping

If you have never been to the Adirondack State Park, you need to put it on your list. State camp grounds throughout. Fishing, hiking, biking, kayaking, etc.. Lake George area is nice, but very commercialized area. If you are looking for quieter areas, then the Adirondacks is your best bet.
Online ADK.com, Adirondacks.com etc. All depends on what your are looking for.

Howdy - I don't see what you have for a rig - many of the NY Dept of Conservation (Adirondack equivalent of State parks) parks have fairly small sites, and all are dry camping, IIRC. That said, we enjoy them - I might suggest you look at Cranberry lake, Rollins Pond, Fish Creek, or Meacham Lake if you are interested in a more remote Adirondack experience. As mentioned, lake George is very crowded and commercialized, and in my opinion does not reflect the Adirondack experience. ST

We stayed at Meacham Lake in our 40 ft motorhome and really enjoyed the park. Another spot we loved was near Whiteface Mtn and the Lake Placid area. We stayed at the North Pole RV Resort.

St Andrews, New Brunswick is a nice little town with a RV park on the edge of town overlooking the bay. Worth a day or two.
