US Route 2 - East to West
We just drove US Route 2 from Grand Forks, ND to the end, in WA. It was a fantastic trip.
We read several reports online that it was a bad road, completely isolated where we’d see no one for days on end. We’d seen people saying the road was so bad they had to drive 15 MPH because of being afraid of shaking their rigs apart. We actually spoke to people from Seattle when we were in Nappanee who told us to avoid this like the plague as the road through the passes was impassable with our 39’ coach.
Well... We had a couple segments that were in rough shape - but one of them was due to construction. The other was no rougher than I-94 between Fargo and Grand Forks. While the road was a bit quiet at times, we were never far from other people.
I was able to work every single day - and I work remotely, in the IT industry - I depend on good cell signal to work online. We had 3 short bits of the road with poor signal.
The only problem we ran into, in Montana, was that some of the places that offered fresh water, like the Pilots, had already turned off the water because of possible freezing.
The trip was a real delight, and if you haven’t driven US 2, I can’t recommend it highly enough.
