Utah fall foliage

We want to plan a trip to the area around Park City, Utah for the fall foliage, but are unsure of the time frame, nor the best areas. Have selected some areas to include the Mirror Lake Highway, Alpine Scenic Highway, Hobble Creek trail out of Provo, and the Nebo loop. Would appreciate any info as to usual time frames, best places around Salt Lake City and south. Thanks for any info you can share!

Best time for Fall Colors???? - Park City Forum - TripAdvisor

Be aware that fall colors depend on moisture, temperature, and elevation. At one elevation it will be quite different than the next. I've been in the Greater Yellowstone region a couple of years to experience the aspen changing, it varies greatly from mile to mile. Some groves of trees are all golden, the next haven't started to change, the third might have peaked and most leaves on the ground. Since an aspen grove might all be the same organism, it's also a matter of genetics.

Throw in climate change and extreme weather and year to year predictions are difficult to mark on a calendar!

Early October is often a good time but from year-to-year it can be difficult to predict. Along the Wasatch Front the weather has seemed about a month early since last November or early December. Right now we're having "August" weather instead of "July" weather. That may argue for the end of September.

We had a fairly dry year and that may mean less color overall this fall.

Good luck. The backside of the Wasatch Front, Kamas, etc. are good bets for color.
