Hi, We (me, my wife and out two boys 14 and 10) are heading to Moab this summer, Moab looks great and we are thinking about spending some time on S. Oregon coast on way. Wondering if anyone has any suggestions for good RV parks along the way both Oregon on way down and on way back we want to head straight north to Canada. Any ideas on route with good stops in either Idaho or eastern Oregon would be helpful. Thanks. Murray

There are scads of places along Hwy 101 down the Oregon Coast. The State Parks are generally the most popular and for good reason. Reservations recommended especially on weekend. I stayed at Cape Blanco for a couple of days. A little off the beaten path but quite nice. Jessie M Honeyman Memorial St. Park is right on the Dunes and there are entertainments near by like quading and sandrails.

Eugene has a nice city RV Park (Armitage) That is really nice next to the river. Again, reservations may be required at weekends and so on.

if you could be more specific on your route it would make things a little easier. there is a lot of different ways to go and many options once the route is established

Murray,

Go to Oregon Dunes and rent dune buggies for the boys. We did it back in 2006 with my 3 boys and they had a blast! We stayed at the casino campground in Coos Bay.

When in Moab, we rented ATV's and went on a guided tour of the BLM land across from Arches NP. Again the boys were stoked!

Now would be a good time to see Moab. I can't imagine enduring the summer heat.

Yes, I am not so worried about Oregon coast on way down as have been there before driving a car but the route over to Moab from S. Oregon and then the route back coming up through either Idaho or eastern Oregon was the idea, I was thinking we would select the route once around what we learn are good places to see or visit or stay along the way. I think were going to cross into Canada at Ossoyoos.

There's also a State called "Washington" in between you and Home...but clearly you've already made the Very Reasonable Decision to skip it.

Tell your wife to take it from me: They're lying in wait for innocent tourists down there! Their motto is "No one leaves here with the money they brought with them!"

She'll find much better bargains at such little-known hotspots as the St. Vincent De Paul Thrift Store in Tacoma, and other Shopping Meccas only known to the locals...

Yes, a bit concerned about that too but kids are in school till end of June ? It will be a good experience - can always head for some cooler climes if it gets too much to bare.

Teh day time temps in MOab in July can be 100 degrees. The joke around here( we're in Moab now) is that it's a dry heat.

Im originally from Manitoba where its a "dry cold" for a good six months. I get it . My Dad used to say we had "six months of winter and six months of poor sledding".
