Victoria Bryant SP, Georgia

This weather here in N Georgia is cloudy, overcast cold and basically miserable. We were getting cabin fever from sitting around the house and decided this afternoon to get out and ride just to see something different. Carol and I ended up in Royston (Hometown of the legendary Ty Cobb) Georgia. Found some pretty good barbecue and decided to take a look at the nearby state park - Victoria Bryant.
This park has been here since I was a small child, and that was MANY years ago. It has been just about that many years since I had been there. Anyway, the place has changed so much I did not recognize it. The RV camping area is great. The sites are all huge, level and well placed. The top area overlooks the woods and ravines of the park. A single site is big enough to accomodate two good sized RV. I'm not sure that is allowed, but this is just an indicator of their size. There were twin 30 amp hook-ups on the power posts. I don't know what to make of that.
The sites are paved in small gravel (granite) with wooden rails around most of the edges that overlook the lower areas of the park. No sewer, two dump stations. I wish I had take the camera with me, but we were not even thinking about the park when we left.
There is a pretty challenging golf course there as well. Played it MANY years ago before the park was actually a park.
We both have vowed the first good weekend or sunny days, we are heading to Royston for a couple of days of camping.

Missed ya in Tampa Doc

Sorry to miss ya at the rally. See you have found my favorite Ga sp- we did our first ever hosting gig there back in Nov2001. So clean you can camp and never get your feet dirty!

Amazing isn't it? - we can travel 2 or 3 thousand miles from home and have jewels right in our own back yard. I mentioned earlier, this place was there when I was a little kid and I mean well over a half century ago.
I don't know how long they have actually had RV type camping, but I'm pretty sure it was not there back then.

Seems like I can recall just a creek on the rock shoals and a few picnic tables. Time flies I reckon.
This indeed would be a great place for a small rally.

We have stayed in a dozen or so Georgia state parks along the Rt. 95 and Rt. 75 corridors and all were great. Although typical of state parks there are no sewer hookups (dump stations provided on way out) the pull off type-sites, settings and costs make them ideal for overnights and more often for us 3/4 days enjoying the local cities and historic sights. Thanks Georgia.

Great golf courses too

With a nick like parthecourse you must be a golfer. Be sure to try VB's Highland walk. The hills and valleys are quite the challenge. For a scenic course RB Russell's Arrowhead Pointe is the place to go. Nice 28 site cg and 18 holes on the huge lake.
