Video TR: Flaming Gorge (UT/WY)

It's Wednesday morning, so it must be time for a new video!

Flaming Gorge is a 42,000-acre recreation paradise spanning the Utah/Wyoming border. In the summer it's a hub of activity including not only world-class fishing and boating, but also swimming, kayaking, hiking, whitewater rafting and, of course, camping.

Come explore Flaming Gorge with us on this Kitchen Table Trips episode of Grand Adventure! We'll find relaxing boondocking along the eastern shore, along with Forest Service campgrounds and even full-hookup RV parks as well. We'll visit nearby Brown's Park, one of Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid's favorite hideouts, to see the John Jarvie Historic Ranch maintained by the BLM, and we'll also kayak through Horseshoe Canyon. We'll gaze down upon Flaming Gorge from Red Canyon, and view the engineering marvel that is the Flaming Gorge Dam.

It's one of our favorite places to visit each year.

Great job Marc!
It’s very obvious that it takes a lot of effort to compile these awesome videos.
Thanks so much for taking the time to do it for us.
Looks like a fantastic area to explore.

Thanks Road Hawg! Flaming Gorge is genuinely one of our favorite regular destinations. Yeah, it took about 7 hours to do that 7-minute video, but it's truly a labor of love.

Very nice! Thank you. We will be visiting that area this summer for 3 days prior to going to Dubois, WY. We will be coming from Grand Junction, CO ... what campground do you recommend for a 45 ft motorhome towing a full size Dodge Ram? We aren't adventuresome enough to "boondock" in an unfamiliar area. Thanks, Lynn

Something that big you've really only got 3 campground options: the Manila KOA, or one of the two RV parks near the dam. I could be wrong, but I'd suspect that the Forest Service campgrounds are all smaller sites. And all but a couple are dry.

In the video description on YouTube there's a link to an interactive Google map I created which has all campgrounds and other points of interest color coded (dry campgrounds are green tent icons, while anything with hookups gets an RV icon that's purple IIRC). Each marker includes at least 1 photo and a website link.

Great Video. Fly fishing below the dam is phenomenal. We've used guides on the river numerous times. Great scenery and very good fishing.
