Virginia trip

Currently we are in Charleston SC and are thinking about heading up to the Virginia area. Any recommendations on places to visit and campgrounds would be appreciated. Looking for some cooler weather and some rivers to float and fish.

Thanks!

Anything in the Shenandoah Valley is good. There are a number of campgrounds, good fishing. You could go up on Skyline Drive with a toad or with an RV only in the southern and northern sections. There is a 12 ft 8 inch tunnel at the top of the central section.

Virginia

I think Misty Woods is where we stayed near Charlottesville VA. We are going back and see the sights there in Nov. with another club.
Harrisburg PA - One hour guided tour (free) of the state capital, very good. Also a civil war museum.

Colonial Williamsburg it a great trip back in history. It is fun to see how the restoration of this town has been done, and all by old school methods. There are several CGs in the area and you will also be close to Busch Gardens.

Pocahontas State Park is not far from Richmond or Petersburg and I95. No river thru the park but it has a decent lake fed by Swift Creek for fishing. Great bike and hiking trails. We are currently camp host but leaving at the end of August. Shenandoah State Park as suggested is right on the river with Front Royal and Luray nearby. Both very nice places to visit plus as suggested the Skyline Drive. There are other nice destinations if you are headed toward the western part or the state.
