Stopping in SF tomorrow for a visit for about 4 days. Any tips on sightseeing is appreciated? We will be staying at SF RV Resort and will take tours. Need recommendations.

There is a BART station just a few miles away and parking is cheap to free depending on the day. Ask in the office about who sells discounted senior BART passes. It's a great way to get around. We loved Chinatown and of course Fishermans Wharf. The double decker bus tour is worthwhile.

Thanks Steve, I read about BART. I hear Alcatraz is a good visit. Of course we'll ride the streetcar, see Chinatown and the Wharf. Anything else?

We're in Reno, not that far away so we've gone to SF a few times. There's way more to do than we've done so far, but these are things we've done that we enjoyed quite a bit. Fishermans wharf is cool and there's all sorts of cool things to see and do within walking distance of each other. Touring the WW2 Pampanito Submarine moored at the wharf is fun and educational. Take a tour of Alcatraz item for sure. You can get there on one of Hornblower Lines boats. They have other sight seeing cruises as well. You might also look into a San Francisco Giants game at AT&T park. It's one of the most beautiful baseball parks in the country. Without a doubt ride the trolley cars. It's fairly inexpensive and all sorts of fun. Get a ticket that allows you to get off and get back on. You can get off in China Town or if you want some exercise get off at Lombard Street. Very crooked and steep, but so cool looking.

Lunch in the restaurant at the top floor of the Hyatt Regency. The restaurant rotates so your view constantly changes.
Alcatraz.
Stroll down Market St, at least 10 blocks or till you encounter an Occupy protest.

We toured the city by using this tour company. We had a small van - not a big bus, which was great. It was an excellent tour and even our daughter, who lives there, enjoyed it. We just left the area a couple weeks ago....enjoy your stay and take a tour - it's a lot easier to see the highlights.

We stayed north on 101 so we drove to Larkspur and took the ferry across the bay to Fisherman's Wharf, where we picked up the van tour. It was an easy pleasant day with no driving hassles and no planning on my part, for a change!

Do the Tea Gardens in Golden Gate Park. Also, their is a large Zoo at the South end of Great Hwy that runs along the beach. At the North end of Great Hwy is the Cliff House and along the walk there you can view seals. Close to Fishermens Wharf is The Cannery if it's still there. Also, look up Mitchells Ice Cream Shop if you like old fashioned milk shakes that you drink with a straw, real chocolate, strawberry or vanilla cokes made from scratch, and the best dang ice cream sodas ever.

As mentioned before, you have to ride the Cable Cars. They run from Market street from the turn about up and over the hills and down to the Wharf.
Word of caution--DO NOT CARRY YOUR WALLET IN YOUR BACK POCKET, it's easy for someone to razor knife your back pocket and take your wallet when it's crowded.

Alcatraz usually needs reservations a couple days out in advance.

Don't forget to step over all of the bums in Union Square. The city has very aggressive panhandlers.

Thanks everyone, this is a great forum. Back in the 70's I visited Haight Ashbury on business. It was crazy but they are my fellow Boomers. I probably should stay longer as I would like to go to Carmel etc. We have to be in Buffalo, Wy on the 25th for the FMCA tour of 2 weeks. I am really enjoying my new lifestyle and will recommend it to everyone. We have a blog...HIT N THE ROAD

If you look at the BART web site it can be a little confusing with all the different passes. Just get the one BART pass an populate it with about $10-15 bucks. We were twice the distance you will be away from down town and populated the card with $20 and had some left over. The card will not only get you on the BART but the trolley and buses and the senior fares are cheap. Really a good way to get around.

When you are walking down fisherman's wharf there will be some "boat" sightseeing cruises. We took the $15 one and enjoyed it. It will run out to underneath the GGB, and then circle around Alcatraz. Plus all the other items that have been stated.
