visiting son with new job at PALM SPRINGS CA

Our son has landed a new Job at Palm Springs, CA.. We so want to congratulate him on this fantastic, hopefully lifelong position. So we are planning a 2500 K trip to validate him this winter, Jan, Feb 2013. Question, where do we stay that one would consider reasonable and with quality amenities. Most searches appear to be very high priced, some not even reasonable for retirees. Traveling in a 44 ft. motor home 2 great girls, canines. What say you, travelers to that area of the world?

We spent four months in Indio over the winter of 07/08. We rented from one of the owners at Outdoor Resorts. It was incredible but would never be considered reasonably priced at $1700/mo.

If you can stay for a month the monthly rates at Sam's Family Spa are pretty good (520 + elec). It's in Desert Hot Springs ~30 mins from Palm Springs. Huge area to walk the dogs out back of the RV park, plus they have 4 mineral pools on-site. It's a quirky place, but we love to stay there.

I have pics of the place here:

Another option is the County Park out by La Quinta...Lake Cahuilla. Met some friends who stayed there and they loved it. Can't recall the exact rates, but it was reasonable.

We'll be renting a site this winter from an individual owner at Two Springs RV Resort, Desert Hot Springs. You might want to Google "rent RV site", then the community name and see what you can find. Two Springs looks like a good fit for us.
Keep looking--you'll find a spot!

Palm Springs is expensive during the winter months because of the "Snow Birds". If you can wait until April, the prices are greatly reduced. Alot of the parks are full to almost full from Oct through March. If you decide to stay in an area away from the Palm Springs area...then you have the high price of Calif gas to deal with. Good Luck with your choice.

If you don't mind staying about 45 minutes away from Palm Springs try Golden Village Palms in Hemet. Nice modern RV resort with 1100 spaces, super reasonable rates. That's where I spend my winters.
