We are going to Kenosha ( staying at Happy Acres CG ) to visit our Grandson who is in the Coast Guard. After spending the weekend we will visit our friends near Wisconsin Rapids. We are thinking we will make our next stop in Munising. We are retired so time is not a problem, so hoping for some things that maybe you think we should see, while in the area. I might add our final stop before crossing the Mighty Mack will be Sault Ste Marie staying at Anne Osborne CG. We do plan to enjoy a Pachki. or--2 (sorry killed the spelling)

Do you intend to walk the bridge on Labor Day? There is a thread about touring the Great Lakes with a lot of good suggestions. I'd be curious as to your choice of Campground in Munising. There are 3, maybe 4 if you count the Casino. Bob T

Our timing will have us in lower Mi Labor Day, so the bridge walk will not be for us. We plan to stay at Munising tourist park, and hope to see the pictured rocks. This will be our third try rough seas, and fog has managed to keep us from the view. Hoping third time to be a charm! Love the north, and anxious to receive suggestions to things we may have missed.

If you have never been to the Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum at Whitefish Point it is really interesting

It's all beautiful country, well, at least once you're out of Kenosha.

While in Kenosha it would not be that far to run up to the Harley Davidson museum.

Have you ever been to Wisconsin before? I'd recommend a stop at the Wisconsin Dells. The community has become very "touristy", but the original attraction is still intact and unspoiled - the river. Take both the upper and lower Dells boat rides, the scenery is unique to this area. While there drive the short distance to Devil's Lake state park, one of the most beautiful state parks in the system. If you're into old steam trains, North Freedom and the train museum is also very close.

Are you a circus fan? The circus museum in Baraboo is on the site where the Barnam and Bailey circus would winter, going back to the 1800s (and don't miss the old theater in town, built by Al Ringling). Many of the old barns and workshop buildings still exist.

A bit west are the town's of Dodgeville and Spring Green. Frank Lloyd Wright's Taliesin is in Spring Green and the House on the Rock and museums closer to Dodgeville. Both are world famous. (Another of our favorite state parks is between the two, Governor Dodge state park)

Another option would be to head to Door County (the "thumb" of Wisconsin). Often described as a bit of New England coast in the Midwest. There again is one of the most beautiful state parks you'll find, Peninsula state park. The Woodruff/Minocqua area, in northern Wisconsin is very popular both summer and winter.

There's plenty to do and see. Enjoy.

Been to the Dells but the other ones sound interesting. We will be visiting our friends that live near Stephens Point. Thanks for your places to see.

Hello Stearn,

We are currently in Marquette in the UP now and heading from east to west. It has been awesome. We planned to be here for about one week and we are spending over 3 weeks. There is so much to do and it is so beautiful. We are staying in the Ojibwa casino RV park. We have 50 amp at our tree covered site, no water or sewer available here. The site is free, and when you register they give you $5.00/person plus a drink voucher per day! They actually pay you to stay here.

Make sure to go to Lakenenland sculpture park (located on M28), also free. There are 80 amazing sculptures made from scrap metal, very impressive. Also in this spot is the Iron Industry Museum, it is free, and very interesting and well done. We bicycle road the extensive bike trails through Presque Island, fantastic ride. You can also take your car. Don't miss this spot. Also, we had the best Pasties, those meat pies you referred to here. One place to try is the Irontown Pasties in Negaunee and Jean Kay's in Marquette.

We took the pictured rocks cruise in Munising and it was terrific! We stayed at Muskallonge Lake State Park which was beautiful but not very level and a little too tight for comfort in our 45' motor home. There was no wi-fi or verizon cell service there. We also went to Tahquamenon Falls in Paradise and to Whitefish Point. What a beautiful beach with gorgeous driftwood and rocks. Browns Fish house in Paradise had great whitefish. The shipwreck museum is here.

In Sault Ste Marie we stayed at Aune Osborne and got site 90 right on the water. It felt like we were on a boat and you can just sit outside and watch the freighters go by, 50 amp, water, no sewer but a close dump station. I definitely recommend you go to the visitor center and observation area to see the locks up close. The town was very quaint.

We stayed in St. Ignace at the Kewadin casino. They had 50 amp at each campsite and a convenient water and dump station. Not a destination but a great place to camp for $10.00/night but great location for going to Mackinac Island which we did for a day. That was wonderful, we took our bicycles and had a great time. We visited the Grand Hotel, which has the largest porch in the country.

We are headed to Copper Harbor and Porcupine Mountains from here. I hope you enjoy your visit to the UP as much as we are.

One other recommendation, if you have time check out the Traverse City area, Sleeping bear national park, Charlevoix and Petoscky, MI

Ok... It appears JMonroe stole most of my thunder... He is 100% correct in all his suggestions.. Everything he mentioned is worth the price of admission..

A few that I would add:

Kohler - the toilet company... very cool place to visit..
Titletown - aka Green Bay... you could take a stadium tour
Oshkosh - if you're into aviation.. a must stop EAA Museum

I will add to his western part of the state suggestions to check out Wyalusing State Park... its right on the Mississippi River and it is a beautiful area..

This weekend you can walk the bridge in Sault St. Marie. It is a unique view of the locks. If you are in Munising, (are you staying at the park in town) I highly recommend the picture rocks boat tour and the Grand Isle bus tour. There are a lot of falls and nice hiking in the area also. There is a kitchy spot in Munising...Johnny Dogs. A little hole in the wall place that has hot dogs a bunch of ways. Guadalajara dog is a fav of our family. Steer clear of the Dog Patch as the food isn't very good there.

Yes to Lakenenland...you won't find anywhere else like it.

In your run through Wisconsin if you are near Chippewa falls, stop by the Leinenkugel Brewery. it goes back to mid 1800's and is really something to see. (the beer is pretty good too!)

The casino stays has worked out great. We have been at 3 casinos over the past few weeks and each one worked well. Let me just restate that these are not "destination" locations where you would want to hang around the campsite all day. You could but you probably would not want to. These sites are on the edge of the casino parking lots. That being said we have had amenities from FHU, 50 amp, water, sewer to just only electric at another. The sites are all large enough to put out all of 4 slides and we have a picnic table. I have taken the BBQ out and cooked dinner with no problem. Also, we have paid as much as $20 per night to as little as getting $5 per person plus a drink voucher with free site. We will look forward to staying at many casinos as we travel.

We are out early touring the area and back late so this works great for us.

Yesterday we toured the Copper Harbor area, a great drive. If you are in the Hancock area do not miss the Quency mine tour. This was fantastic. It is about 2 hours and $18.

Today we are off the Porcupine mtn area.

I for sure agree on staying at the casinos. Done it several times. Been in that area many times in the winter snowmobiling We stay in Eagle River & travel north to Cooper Harbor and all over the UP. Beautiful in Summer & winter

A big Texas howdy ya'll! Our youngest daughter will be attending university in downtown Minneapolis this fall--North Central U to be exact. We would like to be living in our RV nearby, (100-150 miles would be good) at least for most of the first year. (When she gets out in April we will of course head to points west to travel some.) The problem is I can't find many RV parks open year round. Anybody with any idea of where to stay in the area? I'm planning to look for work--using my Texas nursing license-- so Wisconsin or the Dakotas are close enough as well but the same problem. (She just had to get the best scholarship at a school in the North right?) Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated.
